Honestly, I think the easiest way for WCW to ruin the skit would just have been to open the doors.

Great ideas for the DX "invasion" of Nitro. It would have been cool if Hogan and some of the NWO had gone out and been like "Who are these guys?" Or, maybe the doors could have opened and Sting would walk out holding the ball bat and just silently challenged all of them to come at him.

Someone comes out to confront them... edit the sketch before they come out so no it looks like no one did. and the sending people out to actually beat them up would just result in a massive lawsuit that WCW would most likely lose.

Yeah, that was awesome and the most legit surprising moment in literally years. It is a testament to the moment's awe-factor that the mere fact Lesnar took the Streak has phased out any commentary on how much of a disappointment the match turned out to be. That's to say, if Lesnar'd been the one losing, this would've gone up there with McMahon/Hart in terms of Wrestlemania clunkers. To not stray too far off the topic's focus, and to add to the DX pile-up: that VKM/Shane-O Mac impression that DX pulled off in 2006. Like a lot of WWE comedy, it had elements that was legit hilarious, but the fact they were hellbent on fitting it into a drawn-out quarter made it drag like something rotten. Actually, just take your pick from WWE's Monday Night War series. Granted, there was some new stuff and their reflections on the invasion were somewhat novel (though consistently illogical), but anyone with even the most cursory of interests in grappling at the time will get a considerable whiff of the porkies at just how lopsided it became in WWE's favour; every halfway notable WWF Attitude moment gets this VT that paints it as somehow angling the war into the WWF's favour. I totally agree, the match was awful. To me though, that's part of what made the moment so surreal. Here's this awful stinker of a match with that people weren't even that into with an ending that shook the foundation of pro wrestling.

I am going to have to say Austin turning heel in Wrestlemania 17. To me, it was a bit of a meh moment, and was kind of expected as either the Rock or Austin had to turn heel at the time. WWE and most internet fans sadly see this is a turning point and even an ending to the Attitude Era.

Maybe it's because I'm desensitized from seeing it so many times, but Foley being thrown from Hell in the Cell. Aside from that and the spot through the top, the match wasn't great-just stoppage time while they sold those two spots.

Repeat showings plus the car crash mainstream wrestling was about to turn into have dampened its legacy, but at the time I know I hadn't seen anything like it. It was the kind of thing you had to show your friends. But it wasn't the throw for me, it was Mick riding the gurney like a wave board back tot he ring and climbing back up. The match itself isn't very good, & the throw is impressive and a great spot, but the fact that it kept going is what makes it a legendary moment imo.

Honestly, I think the easiest way for WCW to ruin the skit would just have been to open the doors. I just listened to the Gerwick Report podcast with Eric Bischoff and they asked him to name two things that he most regretted about his tenure in WCW. One of his answers was that he wished he'd opened the doors and let them in, but that it didn't immediately occur to him how he should react to the situation.

Brock Lesnar ending the streak. First thing that came to my mind.

The DX Nitro invasion. It was less "invasive" than the TNA thing, and at least the TNA guys brought cake and balloons. Wanna know what's really overblown? How "bad" WCW was. WWE makes it out to be like this soul-crushing hell-hole that was a non-stop nightmare for everyone and everything involved. But they paid their talents a hell of a lot better than WWE did. They didn't work their guys until their bodies fell apart. They actually gave ring time to more than just the top talents. Totally agree with you, it always bugs me when people act like WCW was the worst. Like you said they paid their talents, and to be honest if it wasn't for WCW I doubt most of the world would have seen or been introduced to the cruiserweight division, plus I bet guys in WWE wish they got as much ring and mic time to show off their skills like WCW allowed their younger talent to do.

If anything recently counts, then for me it's gotta be HHH vs. Undertaker from WrestleMania 27. It's like they're telling you the entire time "THIS IS A CLASSIC MATCH THAT'S JUST AS GOOD AS THE UT/HBK MATCHES BEFORE IT AND YOU'RE GOING TO BELIEVE IT AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!!!!" Sorry, but that match sucked. It was like a trailer for their WM 28 match (Which was awesome.).

Anything that includes triple h. 20 years from now, Hogan will mostly be described by the E as the only guy who came somewhat close to matching trips in star power.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the 90's when Hunter Hearst Helmsley first became Triple H, I remember ranting about how he was a glorified midcarder and comparing him to Jeff Jarrett. Over a decade and how many World titles later, I still feel the same way. He's just an average performer in the ring, an average promo, average acting skills, average charisma. His dominance is one of the key reasons why I pretty much completely got out of wrestling after WCW folded until about 2009. The guy is just boring, despite their efforts to make everything he does look epic. He, Randy Orton and Batista are all cut from the same mold... boring guys with average skills who somehow dominated an era.
