Probably Mario RPG.
I really sucked at games until I was 13.
Now I'm pretty damn good.

I have the suspicion one of the first may have been Pit Fighter, and that's depressing.

I've never beaten a game on a console (yeah, I know), but I remember beating The Simpsons arcade game. That was followed by the X-Men arcade game.
...I miss arcades.

I think it was Super Mario Bros. 3. If not that one, it was Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers for the Genesis.

Without the aid of cheat devices, it was either TMNT 2: The Arcade Game or Sonic 1.

But even at 8 years old, that thing took years off my life. I must be the only one that didn't really struggle that much with the Donkey Kong Arcade challenge. It was a pain, but I still got through the game pretty easily. I'd rather do that than try to get the Golden Bananas without a Player's Guide.
