Had Dillion been in an Indy Car like Dan Wheldon, he probably would not have been that lucky. These drivers always go crazy at the end at almost every Daytona race.

Sebastien Bourdais kicked everyone's ass today at the Milwaukee Mile for his second win of the year. His second and third stints were glorious. He looked like 2004 SeaBass out there. I'm really happy he's found a good place to race as he has with KVSH. An Indycar with a winning Bourdais in it is a better Indycar.

What I like when Bourdais wins is how genuinely happy he seems to be. Like each win is the biggest one in his career.
IndyCar's point standings heading in to the final four races:
1 - Juan Pablo Montoya, 439 pts 2 - Scott Dixon, 385 pts 3 - Graham Rahal, 370 pts 4 - Helio Castroneves, 370 pts 5 - Will Power, 369 pts 6 - Sebastien Bourdais, 343 pts 7 - Marco Andretti, 332 pts 8 - Tony Kanaan, 314 pts 9 - Josef Newgarden, 309 pts 10 - Simon Pagenaud, 278 pts
Amazing how well Graham and Marco are doing as Honda's lead drivers. Graham especially. He's a few bad races from Montoya away from having a legit chance at the championship.

NHRA leaving ESPN, moving to Fox Sports in 2016Thank f***ing God. NHRA was getting the shaft the last few years on ESPN. Always getting pre-empted by some damn thing, and then the races would be aired at the stupidest hours, like in the middle of the night!!

A few years ago I thought the same thing with IndyCar, but ultimately ratings on ESPN/ABC > other sports channels, unless it ends up on network television. Fox Sports will probably be better for NHRA than Versus/NBC Sports was/has been for IndyCar though. The main problem with ESPN's coverage was always how NASCAR was treated as vastly superior to any other form of motorsports, but man it's like most people only know about sports if ESPN is talking about them.

Ratings on ESPN would be gold if they didn't pre-empt NHRA 90% of the time, or show it at 1 AM like they seemed to do.....ALOT. Because God forbid we miss Baseball Tonight, or the end of the Little League World Series, or World Series of f***ing POKER!!! So in short, goodbye ESPN. And good riddance.

A bit of shameless self-promotion, but I hope it'll be tolerated, plus I wasn't sure where to put it. Inspired by the 2013 film Senna, this is my attempt at a film trailer looking at the life of Dan Wheldon, hopefully with one day in my head getting the real thing made if I was to ever get any money or financial backing to do so. Most of the time with my videos all I do is essentially take pre-existing videos and re-interpret them into a pre-existing template as it were, so this was the first time that I have ever had to craft the narrative from scratch and it was a new challenge. Obviously a lack of film clips available did limit my attempt to get the thing looking as professional as possible and I am not a professional editor but rather an enthusiastic amateur. PS. I know I shouldn't have put the Universal logo in and it was boneheaded of me considering copyright, but apart from that I would like to think it turned out OK. Consider this part taster vid, part building editing skills and part tribute to a great man. Hope it's OK for you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=78hwenSlmiY

Reminds me a bit of the trailer to the Gonzalo Rodriguez documentary that's coming out soon.

I just don't know how ESPN Speed World was so good for so long and yet this more recent run was just very... forgettable, to put it gently. There must have been almost no overlap with production teams, and I can only wonder what might've been if Fox and NBC hadn't gotten the broadcast contract in 2001.
As much as I hate to say it, even with DW and Larry Mac being their usual eye-rolling selves, I think Fox still does the best job with NASCAR at least.

ESPN doesn't give a shit anymore about motorsports. It's not relevant, or what they want to be relevant.

I think somewhere in the 2000s ESPN just decided they really, REALLY wanted to be the NFL Network, or at least it sure as hell seems that way sometimes.

ESPN after that decided if they can't have NASCAR footage on their programs then they'll shaft other series in return.

In F1 news, Jules Bianchi has sadly passed, per his family.

RIP, and you never really want to have to say this, but it was probably more merciful this way.
As was said by a commentator over on Jalopnik, with that kind of head injury, you knew that Jules Bianchi was never truly going to be Jules Bianchi ever again.

That's the first driver death from an accident at a Formula 1 Grand Prix since Senna in 1994. It's tragic but the safety procedures are pretty damn good in that it's been that long since a fatality. RIP.

This is definitely not news I wanted to wake up to Rest in peace Jules. A driver who had such a bright future in the sport, and believe I wouldn't just say that for any driver. A horrible reminder that despite how much safety has improved over the years, the danger always remains. Rest in peace

RIP Jules
I saw the news a few hours ago and I've been trying to think what to write. It feels a little weird I think, for 2 main reasons. Firstly because of the amount of time between the accident and the passing of Jules. I'll get to the second reason later.
A lot of times when somebody in sports dies, you end up getting tributes saying that they were one of the best ever. I've not seen any of those yet which is fair considering he was still early in his (F1) career, but what I have seen is plenty saying that Jules was a nice guy who had great potential. I obviously can only base my opinion of him being a nice guy on what I've seen in the media, but it seems accurate. Jules having great potential is something that I can agree with. I had the feeling that he wasn't going to be one of those that have a couple of seasons before getting dropped but would have been there for the long term.
The second reason that it feels a little odd is that it's been so long since the death of an active F1 driver. The safety improvements made after Senna's death meant that despite some horrific crashes over the years, most drivers were able to walk away with bruises. No matter how much you improve the safety, there's still going to be freak occurrences like Massa's accident or the times we've seen cars going over the top of others and almost hitting the driver below. It's almost surprising there haven't been other deaths.
Most racers won't make it to the top and become rich and famous, they simply do it for the love of competing.
