For the first time since last year's Austrian Grand Prix, a driver that isn't Hamilton or Rosberg takes the pole position for a Formula 1 race. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel takes it in Singapore.
Incredibly, the best that the Mercedes drivers could do was 5th and 6th, behind both Ferraris and both Red Bulls. Might make for an interesting race tomorrow...

It definitely has potential to be a decent race, unless the front couple of rows screw up their starts and Hamilton immediately jumps them before disappearing into the distance. There's a good chance of a safety car as well, to keep things bunched up a bit.

I enjoyed that race; some entertaining racing, a guy walking on the track, good result for Ferrari and a great drive from Verstappen although the team won't be happy with him for his refusal to move over at the end.

Apparently Harvick punched Jimmie in the Drivers' Lot following the race.

Apparently the place was pretty packed for a testing session. The car themselves were pretty much matching the DP 01's lap times from when Champ Car was last there in 2007. I'm f***ing pumped to see those cars in an actual race on that track. Next to Indy and Long Beach, it's one of my favorite tracks because it was one of my favorites in the CART/Champ Car days.

I've been to Elkhart Lake three times (2012 and 2014 for the then Nationwide Series races and a few days ago for several classic model races) and it is nothing short of an amazing place. Beautiful scenery, awesome (albeit expensive) food, and a very challenging track. It's well worth the trip and the IndyCar race will be well worth the wait.

I've seen NASCAR vehicles go well off the track into the gravel by the gap in the barricade where the tow trucks go through. That turn gets a LOT of spectators because so much craziness happens right there.

You may remember when Bryan Herta almost got a car to his face:

It's back to normal at the front of the grid for the Japan GP with an all Merc front row. Rosberg was on pole after the first runs in the final qualifying session, Kvyat crashed which basically ended the session early and prevented Hamilton (amongst others) having another run.

That Kyvat crash was nuts. His front left barely touches the grass and he loses it.

With the start today, Jeff Gordon is now the Iron Man of NASCAR with his 789th consecutive start.

Kenseth wins New Hampshire after Kevin Harvick runs out of fuel with three laps to go. It means that the best driver this year needs to win Dover of is out of contention for the title.
Well done Mr France.

Well done Mr France. A guy that raced half the season actually has a chance to win the championship, and people complain about this? Is this supposed to be shocking to people?
