So the first two episodes of the new Life is Strange are out and they're basically enough on their own that it's looking like this game's going to completely kill the franchise. The fanbase is pissed, to the point the top post on the subreddit is how to get a refund if you preordered it.

And it's apparently solely because {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Chloe and Max have gone their separate ways if you picked the first game's "Keep Chloe Alive" ending.

And the other writing isn't exactly looking too promising either. I'm kind of on the side of thinking it's stupid and a bad sign but not finding it a dealbreaker personally, but I am definitely going to need to see and hear more before I commit to getting the game personally. Though I was already planning to do that before this.

I was gonna get the game too, and as long as it's better than Life is Strange 2, I can live with the writing in general being less than stellar.

Chloe and Max have gone their separate ways if you picked the first game's "Keep Chloe Alive" ending.
[/div]
If that is permanent, then year--that is some f***ing bullshit. If it's temporary and {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Max and Chloe soon reunite, then I guess that is ok. But, I have a feeling it's going to be permanent because the developers wrote themselves into a hole having too wildly different endings and are too lazy to do two versions of this game depending on what choice you picked.
I can definitely see why people are pissed

LiS: {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Would not surprise me if the only Chloe we get in the Bae over Bay side is just a scene of her reuniting with Max at the end for max money saving/ease of juggling the endings.

Let's be honest though, Life is Strange is a franchise that's hanging on solely because the first game was so great but is followed by mediocrity.
1 - Amazing game Before the Storm - Good game, a step back from #1 but still a solid entry Life is Strange 2 - Absolute garbage, i am surprised this didn't kill the series to be honest. True Colors - Completely forgettable. Strong characters, but no actual plot and your choices did not matter at all.

Honestly thought it was a bad idea bringing Max back. Really wrote themselves into a corner. True Colors ruled and was a huge upgrade over 2 and honestly should have used it as a guideline for future games. Think I'll hold off on this one until I know for sure if one of the endings is worth it.

Sometimes I think about how 2 went and am completely baffled at how wrong it went at like every single turn, I hate that game lol. Misery booking in video game form.

I genuinely get the sense that this game was written to have a new protagonist then hastily changed to Max to increase interest in it. Nothing I've seen of her dialogue feels like it fits her voice as a character, it's just a messy-ass concept even trying to follow up her story, and she has whole new powers and a whole new setting with a whole new supporting cast so there's basically nothing actually recognizably functioning as a sequel to the first game in this one anyway.

But I just remember the plot being completely wafer thin and zero choices matter. It was a big improvement than Number 2, but it would be hard to be worse than Number 2.

I am really surprised it didn't kill the franchise, it was that bad. It's the one LiS game I never managed to complete. The first one, is one of my all time favorite games. I love the story, I love the characters, I love the setting. Max and Chloe were both awesome.

I absolutely adored True Colors (one of my favorite games) so this is... Wow.

It had a fun set up with the free game playing as the little kid using his imagination to escape an abusive household. When it got to the reveal at the end, I was pretty interested. The whole game was just so soul sucking though. This sucks though. The first game is in my top ten all time and very disheartening this is the follow up to Max's story. Think I'll stick to the follow up comics instead.

I couldn't even make it through the first episode of 2. Spending forever in boring tedium around the house just to then snap to, "And then everything falls apart implausibly quickly, and now we're just in the woods," and then that part goes on forever and the entire time the idiot kid brother comes off as intensely unlikable... Yeah, I eventually just turned it off and have given little consideration to trying it again. Then I tried Tell Me Why and ran into the same issue because I hated the brother and the sister's constant, "Who even cares, why should we even be invested in the plot?" resonated with me so I stopped playing it. Granted I also didn't make it past the first episode of Before the Storm. I really, really didn't like Rachel. Edit: Further out that apparently you actually get to pick the reason for that whole thing, which kind of makes it even worse. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}One of the explanations you can give is that Chloe died sometime after the first game so... Yeah, she's pretty much assuredly not going to be in this game at all.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} Maybe I should be glad that I'm on the Bay>Bae side, so I probably won't have to worry about it.

So now that people are actually playing the game they're kind of just getting even madder. Not helped by how they seem to be going out of their way to bury the other games as much as possible. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Couple of good examples are that Chloe became paranoid that Max was using her powers to manipulate her and that immediately after the photo of them in the second game they got into a huge fight. Yeah, this feels like it's going to kill the series.

Haven't played Double Exposure yet but it sounds to me like {Spoiler}I'm guessing they didn't want to have to write for both scenarios and see the sacrifice Chloe ending as canon (which it should be, but still). Kind of reminds me of when Telltales The Walking Dead would go "you chose to save this person? Well they're still gonna die next episode anyway sorry".
It's the big problem with these choice-based games

On the second main city in Metaphor. It is an excellent game, my only complaint still is {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Time feels too rushed. They need to add an extra five days on each main event, just to give you that bit extra. In the last story segment, I ended up neglecting hanging with followers in order to do dungeons and level up. Persona seemed much more forgiving with time. And for any one playing and time managment {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I have found the activities that waste the King traits are pointless for the most part. You get some of them by doing companion quests and dungeons and bounties.
Like the one to raise courage--you get four courage from that, four from a bounty -- do a bounty instead and get the exp.
