no matter how many times Richard Grayson takes over for Bruce, he will never be Batman. no matter how many times Rhodey puts on the armor, he will never be Iron Man. Miles Morales is NOT Spider Man, period. accept no substitutions.

I'm sorry. The minute I saw them talking about "Peter Parker's story" I stopped caring. I can't even pretend to look forward to more Peter Parker as Spider-Man and not Miles Morales. Miles Morales is as much Spider-Man as Jean-Paul Valley is Batman. Spider-Man isn't interchangeable. The Spider-Man persona is driven by Peter Parker. If you would've said "Dick Grayson is Batman," that would've been just a bit more apt. Maybe. Jean-Paul Valley, dude? Nah, man. Dude, y'all literally have all those movies and all those books about Peter Parker being Spider-Man. I'm over here not even asking for a franchise of movies, but at least one movie about Miles/Spider-Man and dudes act like it will retroactively erase everything Peter Parker. Y'all will still have your five Peter Parker movies. Y'all will still have your several hundreds of Peter Parker comics. EDIT: I mean, the blatant hatred of Miles Morales (and oddly not Spider-Gwen) is...still something. People closing their ears singing to the heavens because they so badly don't want to believe that he's Spider-Man. I sincerely thought that would've died out ages ago. Are people still salty that one of the best things the Ultimate Universe ever did was kill off Peter Parker and have Miles Morales be the legacy?

To which I respond: Stop complaining and create one It happened, their names are Miles Morales & Gwen Stacey. Plus doing something like this does not preclude people creating other original characters from being made. Also the stop complaining & create one argument is one of the single weakest arguments.

How is create your own create a character a weak argument all of these characters Superman, Batman, Spider-man, and etc were once new IP's so why not make someone who can be a hero and not ride in on the coat tails of other characters

That was Gwens big contribution untll recently. Again this contribution only means something if she's been dead.

if you go up to 100 average movie goers, and ask who is Spider Man, and more than 20% say Miles Morales, then you would have a valid point. till then there's no good reason to change the main character.

I don't think we'll get Morales because that would require people to know what Ultimate is, which would require people to have read it, which would show all these new folks the awfulness of Ultimate. This. Incestual SW and QS, Fangirl Valkyrie and mook Vision aren't things I wanna see in theaters ever.

So I guess Iron Man should have been about the making of the Black Sabbath song, since before Robert Downey Jr came along, average movie goers didn't know a thing about Tony Stark?

I'm still amazed people even make that argument with a straight face when one of the biggest movies of last year was GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

It ain't a race thing, it ain't a color thing, it's a Peter Parker is Spider-Man thing. And that's the bottom line 'cause Stone Cold said so.

Speaking as an average moviegoer, if someone presented me with a Miles Morales (who I've only just heard of thanks to this thread) or Gwen Stacey Spider-movie, I'd say "Where's the actual Spider-Man?" and pass. I barely care about the Peter Parker incarnation, so it's not like I've got a vested interest in the status quo. I've also got no interest in a Grayson-Batman movie, a Thorette movie, a Bucky-Cap movie, a Falcon-Cap movie (though I'll gladly take a Falcon movie), or any other pointless situation where one character assumes another character's identity. I don't care if they're male, female, trans, black, white, blue, green, human, alien, gay, straight, or pan-sexual. It's lazy writing to just swap one character in for another. So I guess Iron Man should have been about the making of the Black Sabbath song, since before Robert Downey Jr came along, average movie goers didn't know a thing about Tony Stark? Iron Man didn't have a $4 billion movie franchise in the preceding decade and a half firmly establishing him to the average moviegoer.

But, if it were up to me, every comic book character would have a movie by now. You'd be at Wal-Mart's 5 dollar bin sifting through Sleepwalker and Squirrel Girl and Night Thrasher and Videoman. Spidey would've had movies where he fought Spot and Puma by now. We'd have all the Captain Marvels (Marvel and DC).

I am well aware of that, and my interest in the Cap movies ends when Chris Evans' contract is up. Ditto for any Iron Man that isn't RDJ.
