Orton was at his best those first couple months. RKO'ing Steph was awesome.

It'd be interesting to try find positives from 2009 RAW. Bob Barker/Jericho segment would be the first one that springs to mind. - Mark Henry is red hot with the crowd, even as the biggest heel on ECW, crowds were cheering him. They moved him to Raw, his first night on Raw he destroyed Orton turning face in the process, and they proceeded to do nothing with the momentum. I'm not kidding, around the fanbase even online, people were pumped about the possibility of Orton defending the WWE Title against a face Mark Henry at SummerSlam. Remember how he would totally control the crowd just by raising or lowering his arms? He was so over but of course, nothing was done with it. Watching Raw 2009 was like watching a modern day Hee Haw with the occasional wrestling...er, I mean sports entertainment match.

I loved how it was like Raw is Orton all year but other than that there was nothing good on Raw that year. The guest hosts were the shits, even at their best

I watched in 2009 but cannot remember a damn thing about it. 2009? What the hell happened then?...besides the guest hosts.

2009 as a whole was bad, but not atrocious. However, WWE focusing entirely on the events of RAW being the shape and health of the company made it feel sickly. Orton got super over as a heel at the beginning, but they screwed that up with Shane beating him up and pushing Triple H as the white knight. Once we got to summer, the return of DX was just horrific, and these guys sure did everything to make the Legacy look as inept as possible. I'm still amazed Breaking Point happened where DX actually lost, but that's a match you'll never see on the Network.
Speaking of Breaking Point, this was also around the time the company moved away from annual PPVs to all-gimmick PPVs, and this continued in 2010
Also, Hornswoggle vs. Chavo happened. The worst part of the feud was the time Chris Masters beat up Hornswoggle, and Chavo made the save. Yes, the midget who kept humiliating him was a free target, and Chavo helps him. How does Hornswoggle repay him? By beating him in another match the following week.
I didn't bother going into further details about DX vs. Jerishow or the guest hosts. That's other people's jobs.

DX in 2009 might be the absolute nadir for me, as a wrestling fan. I don't think there's been a worse, more intolerable piece of shit that stank up the joint week to week worse than those two f***holes during that time. Worse than the forced bullshit 2006 comeback, worse than basically every f*** awful version of DX outside of that alright period between 1997 and the middle of 1998. Asolutely godless. Having to watch HBK parade around head to toe in kids merchandise like he's working some sort of demented Build A Bear store, chopping his mid section and the shite impressions, jokes, little people, crap and other wank - f***ING HELL.

2009 was when I stopped watching for years, so I echo the sentiment that it was not good times. I don't doubt that Smackdown or ECW had good matches and some good feuds, but for whatever reason I wasn't that invested in them at the time. The ECW show had really lost me a while before that.
I also found 2008 to be one of the weaker years, Mike Adamle was Jamaican me crazy. (That line is his best work)

The Dr Ken/ Jeremy Piven episode was so awful. You can't even explain to people who didn't see it why it was so bad. That was the episode that made me stop watching Raw. That was August. I didn't watch a millisecond of Raw until Bret Hart made his return in January. Even then, I was basically watching highlights online before WrestleMania 26 including the HBK/Taker feud, Douchetista, and Bret/Vince.
And to think, the guests host continued even after that. Vince's insecurity about not being mainstream is pitiful.

Remember when Cena and Orton main evented FOUR PPV's in a row??? It wasn't the matches I had an issue with. It was the feud that consisted of Orton droning on for 20 minutes about whatever and then Cena making some goofball response.

I just remember wondering who half of the schmucks they got to host the show were because I'm not American.

Orton was at his best those first couple months. RKO'ing Steph was awesome. Orton punt-kicking Mr. McMahon is, IMO, one of the best Raw moments of the past 10 years.

the guest hosts combined with the nadir rresult of Johnny Ace's terrible talent scouting. I can't think of a period where the roster was weaker over all.
