Ending it with a solid WrestleMania match is always an ideal way to go. Most wrestlers just kind of leave WWE at some point, only a few get a special kind of send off.

I'm not the AJ fan I used to be (I didn't enjoy her AJ Punk act at all) but I'm struggling to see how it's AJ's fault that WWE didn't push any of the other women to her level. Creative/Vince are the only ones responsible.

At times, some fans even make WWE management seem rational. Meh, its mean but I don't care. There are four women in NXT not only better than she is but are actually interesting and shes going to be pushed over all of them for the next few years no matter what happens. Its gonna be Randy Orton 2.0.

I'm surprised she lasted this long, there is such a conflict in her career and her husbands experiences that it had to come to a head soon.

Seems very sudden given she's mid-storyline. But fair play, good luck to her. Talented woman, and she's walking away at her peak.

It's a shame that the most over diva in a while has gone, but honestly I always thought she was overrated in the ring, and her character has been stale for a couple of years.
It's not a huge loss for me, but they really need to push Paige or another face diva strongly now to fill her role.

Is the WWE such a shitty place to work that no one can stomach sticking around for a brief sendoff?
Seems like everyone just disappears.

She has a book coming out at some point. It'll be interesting to see how critical she is of WWE in it.

Is the WWE such a shitty place to work that no one can stomach sticking around for a brief sendoff? Seems like everyone just disappears. That is an interesting thing, more wrestlers than not don't get a sendoff. Even big names. What would an AJ send off be like? Her saying thanks to the fans and see you later in a brief promo? Would it fit her character also? My guess is some just don't feel like they need to make a big deal out of it, plus I'm assuming you'd have to ask for a segment like that. Like how some people don't make a big deal about their birthday or something like that, I dunno. Another thing is, for a younger wrestler, saying goodbye in a retirement kind of way would be shutting the door when maybe they aren't fully sure about the future. Plus it seems you have to be kind of a big deal fan fav for this type of thing to even come up, so it's not too surprising when midcard favs often get Future Endeavor'd without anything onscreen really indicating it. I do think it would be cool to see something like that though, but her WrestleMania match made for a good sendoff I think.

Local Man Blamed For Retiring AJ. (Seriously, that's the only non-NXT or non-silly love rectangle I remember about her career...getting run over by Big Show.) SHE'S ONLY 98 POUNDS!! 95 pounds- she was on a diet that week.

I was the biggest AJ mark when she was on NXT3 and loved everything she did up 'til her GM run. It never made sense to me why, considering her size, selling ability, and young looks that so much of her run on the main roster was as a heel or as "crazy" and never really as an underdog babyface, which she seems tailor-made for. yeah the only time that really happened was in the pre-Bryan days when beth pheonix would slaughter her on a regular basis, though in this last mini run she would usually be the "face in peril" in most of her tag matches.

Just recently I was mocking One Direction fans. Now, I feel their pain. I honestly feel like that's why this is happening. Like Zayn Malik, she's very much alive and well. Yet... One angle that hasn't been brought up is that WWE gave her no reason to stay for a long time. I'm certain that being linked to Punk sped up the process of her departure but this is the biggest female star WWE has cultivated in years and she has only one good feud (Kaitlyn) and one memorable promo to her name. That Catfish segment with Kaitlyn was great but that's going to be what most remember. It's a real shame and I can't help but wonder if she'd feel even a little differently if her final year went better. She came back in the summer for a long run and what did she get for it? They turned a dream feud with Paige into a joke almost instantly. Her ring time was shrunk, mostly, to three minutes. She had awful character direction as a face to the point where most grew tired of her. They for sure refused to give her a gimmick match with Paige at least once and the feud with the Bellas to close out last year was horrid. Oh and she got an injury for her troubles. I suspect AJ made the decision to leave at the time and, when she came back for a month, she seemed at ease because she could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, AJ absolutely had it better than other divas but that more so speaks to how horrid the division is rather than how well she had it. She had her time at the top. Unlike Summer Rae, unlike Fox, she knows that WWE can do better because she's experienced it firsthand. I can imagine that, after six months of the same song and dance, on top of the Punk issues, she just lost interest. As for me? This is exhausting. You invest so much in a performer and they simply leave. That isn't right. I hope WWE acknowledges this on Monday and I hope WWE gives someone like Paige a reason to stay in a few years when it's not all shiny and new. Their shitty booking caused Kaitlyn to leave. I'm willing to bet it played a part in AJ's mind as well. It's not all about the hubby. Hell, I just happened to stumble upon this retweet. twitter.com/WWEAJLee/status/511220818547077120This is someone who loved WWE, who has the date of her first title win inked on her body, and on some level they've managed to make her say 'actually? never mind.' in the span of three years. That's weirdly remarkable.

This is someone who loved WWE, who has the date of her first title win inked on her body, and on some level they've managed to make her say 'actually? never mind.' in the span of three years. That's weirdly remarkable. We saw it in football this past year with Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retiring. The people getting into wrestling, football, boxing, and MMA, are getting smarter about injuries and money. They're looking at it and saying "My body's in pain, I've had multiple concussions, but I've made money. I'm out while I'm still in decent shape." They don't want to end up like the athletes who made a shitload of money in their time, but blew it all. They don't want to end up like the athletes that don't remember where they live, or where it hurts doing mundane things like making a bed. Hell, it was reported that one of the reasons Kelly left was because she was having neck issues. Athletes are getting smarter.

People are getting out in sports while still in relatively good shape and don't have to pile on existing injuries and can enjoy their retirement without being in constant pain or forgetting what is was they were doing. And with all that we've discovered over the years what can happen due to head on blows, more will likely do the some.

I think we're gonna see fewer and fewer "lifers" in WWE/pro wrestling. Guys and girls will get in, travel the world and make some money (and save money), and hopefully get back out relatively unscathed.

The fact that AJ hasn't tweeted about is a bit weird to me. Paige hasn't. Bayley hasn't. I know I'm clutching at straws but I hope it means that she'll get some send-off on RAW. Hell, you could even have Charlotte debut by interrupting her.

I'm upset we won't get to see these great matches with AJ against the likes of Charlotte, Sasha, and Bailey that I've been anticipating. Tragic.
