To people who are done with Game of Thrones after that "gratuitous rape scene"... Where the hell were you in Season 4 where we had this same thing, but right next to a dead person? Where was the outrage when Drago did the same thing to Dany? No idea....seriously anal people are so behind the times with this show.

With the reaction to that scene, people saying they're quitting the show and so on. I wonder is it just the scene specifically or a culmination? I've always though there could be a breaking point with the general audience, with them just getting tired of seeing horrific things happen to the characters they care about. Is there a point where all the murder, mutilation, and tape becomes too much for people? After Sunday, there seems to be quite a few people saying yes. Let see if they're just blowing smoke or truly fed up. By the rage quit logic, by this point there would be no WWE universe left. Sansa is the Job (biblical Job pronounced "Jobe"), of Westeros. Cannot watch this season (no HBO) and a book fan, so I can't speak to how it happened but I don't mind the sound of what I have read online about the rape. I do understand your point about the culmination or anger. I have done this with other shows. You forgive, you forgive you forgive then finally they cross a line with you that you cannot reconcile.

Anyone else a little disappointed in this season so far? I think it's because Season 4 was so good, it was always going to be a tough act to follow.

Even setting the unnecessary rape scene aside, this season has been terrible outside of the stuff at the Wall. The Dorne stuff has been atrocious, and that was one of my favorite subplots in the books. Everyone's character has either been assassinated (The Sand Snakes, Ellaria Sand, Sansa, Daenerys, Margarey, Loras) or outright ceasing to exist (The Griffs, Lady Stoneheart, Arianne Martell, Victarion and Euron Greyjoy). To people who are done with Game of Thrones after that "gratuitous rape scene"... Where the hell were you in Season 4 where we had this same thing, but right next to a dead person? Where was the outrage when Drago did the same thing to Dany? I don't know where I was commenting on the show at the time, but I was as pissed off about those two things, too. Especially when they were entirely consensual sex scenes in the books. Not that GRRM is perfect and I get that Westeros is a rough place. But the showrunners almost have a fetishistic affinity for sexual violence.

Theon spends a season slowly getting tortured until he loses his dick and is psychologically tortured into fighting off the people rescuing him. Meh.
Sansa has an off-camera medieval period accurate sex scene which she technically consents to. The rabble blogs lose their shit.

I am shocked- SHOCKED that a villain, who is known to hunt and rape girls for sport before feeding them to his dogs, would do such an evil thing!

I keep wanting to get into GoT and I have a strong stomach for graphic scenes, but some of these synopsis are just...uh. I can see why some folks would be put off.

Does anyone remember the Masters of Meereen mutilated, crucified and murdered nearly two hundred children to taunt Dany? You'd think that would have caused a wee bit of a stir.

Women get hurt or killed all the time on the show with no fanfare from the blogs. Ygritte, Shae, Catelyn, Talisa, Ros, Brienne vs bear, hunting girl. It just bugs me that the unforgivable sin in a world where people are flayed alive, burned to death, or disemboweled to die slowly, rape is the worst thing that can happen to a person. It's weird that when considering Oberyn Martell's chant, the first part would be considered the worst.

The issue with the blogs is they apply 21st century western morality and ideals to a show set in a medieval Britain analogue. That being said, the show has very progressive and complex female characters. Warrior women, cunning women, passive women, active women, players of all types. If anything, they make up the most competent characters on the show. So, while we disagree on every piece of entertainment vehemently, I think you would enjoy that aspect of the show. Just know that sometimes, bad things happen to good characters. But their reactions to these events, and how they evolve as characters given rather shitty places in life, that is fascinating television to watch.

So, while we disagree on every piece of entertainment vehemently Wait, huh? Didn't we both praise Age Of Ultron? Also, this is a character who had her story arc merged with another from the original books, right? It doesn't feel to me like people are trying to apply a modern sense of morality to the show as it is they might feel the change was unnecessary, combined with a general weariness of sexual violence towards women used for dramatic purposes. I'm picking up a sense of "this shit again?" from the backlash.

I think most of the Sansa/Ramsay blowback is far less about the act and much more about how invested people are in the characters.
Sansa is GoT's woobie and Ramsay is a monster. Compare Drogo and Dany in S1E1, where most viewers were far less knowledgeable about those two characters and less into that story. The scene had far less of an impact. I don't think that's coincidental.

I'm picking up a sense of "this shit again?" from the backlash. 98% Yeah, she was merged with a character who had it severely worse than her. It was neccessary if they wanted to keep Sansa in the plot since her book portion ran out long ago, and going here helps make her character relevant. Audiences are tired of new characters as is. She's not the only merged character this season who has gotten a raw deal. There is an issue in that audiences finally thought Sansa, who has gone through a hell of a lot, was going to start her revenge march. The less than enthusiastic wedding night sex which she voluntarily had, seemed like a slap in the face. But, people don't seem to realize that she is in in a great position to carry out revenge, and come out ahead. Had she stabbed her "rapist" she would have been promptly executed or dungeoned. Sansa's gimmick is she copes. She's been through worse than this, and I want to see where the show goes with her. I get people saying "this shit again?" in regards to medieval wedding sex for dramatic purposes, but it fit the characters, showed nothing, and advanced the plot in a non-forced way. Bad things happen in Game of Thrones, and you can either be outraged by everything offensive, or admit it's a show. You can't cherry pick. Also, if they were upset by this, I can't wait to see how the outraged community is going to react to something else likely happening this season. {Spoiler}Naked Cersei's walk of shame. Sure, they did it to a male character earlier, but I'm sure people will freak out when she does it.

Maybe the scene really will be great for her character in the long run, but people of all types and worldviews were bothered by it.

I mean that I am wondering how everyone upset by this scene will react to the spoilered scene.

I didn't even see it as a violent rape. She all but consented, so technically it is a rape by our standards, but she knowingly put herself in that position for a reason. Remember, she idolized Cersei up until her father's beheading and Cersei took her under her wing. Cersei also "willingly" gave herself to a man that she hated and disgusted her for very political reasons. Sansa isn't going to kill people with axes and swords, she's going to kill them the Cersei way. Play a part in a larger game and try to get your pieces ahead. Only thing is she has Ned's tempered patience and tolerance unlike Cersei so she has the potential to be much much better at Cersei's game then the Queen herself was. Add into it she was rescued from Cersei and her own crazy aunt by the even more conniving Littlefinger and you can see where this girl's recent King's Landing education is leading. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the hound keeper's daughter gets offed by a few mentions Sansa makes now that she has Ramsay's trust. Ramsay bent Sansa's body over but she is going to bend his mind over, and totally skull f*** him.

I have to wonder what the Sand Snakes' end game was here? I know that Jaime and Bronn's interference ended up delaying their assassination attempt and led to all of them getting captured, but Myrcella was with Trystane right there in brought daylight. Was this a suicide mission, because everyone would've known they were responsible if they killed her? they're not any smarter in the books and nobody's sure what the hell the endgame was for the smegheads in Dorne. it's probably the least popular storyline, except for maybe fake Aegon the 6th Really? I thought it'd be {Spoiler}The Ironborn . With the Sand Snakes, I'd actually laugh if they're portrayed like this the whole time, big bad (in many senses) speeches, going on about how badass they are, then immediately losing every fight they have.
