Yeah, I cannot see it happening because of that. I'd sooner expect a $2 or $3 price increase over the removal of Wrestlemania. While I'm not exactly looking forward to paying more for the Network, I will have lots of laughs at WWE's expense when they do raise the price. I'd happily pay $20 a month for the content that I get from the Network. A price increase doesn't bother me at all as long as WWE maintains its commitment to original programming, airing all ppvs and keeps uploading classic content. Oh, and I'm a baller so idgaf.

Yeah seriously. 20 bucks is worth it for the content on the network IMO.
My cut off is pretty much 30-40 dollars. The price of a PPV give or take.

In was a Chinese theme - San Francisco has the largest Chinatown outside of Asia. But what does that have to do with Sting? It was San Francisco-themed. But I thought it fit the character. Other guys have had local-themed entrances, like Cena doing the Al Capone thing in Chicago. And not every guy has a personal gimmick entrance, especially those whose gimmicks don't really lend themselves to that kind of thing. The Terminator has nothing to do with HHH, but it made an fun over-the-top entrance.

It's 100% the Network. The gate was fine - it was the highest grossing event in wrestling history. But instead of 1 million buys at around $30/each (after cable/satellite cut), they got around 1 million paid network subscribers (maybe less) at around $10/each, minus all the costs that go into the network. Still surprised they lost money with a $12.6/million gate though, I'd love to see that breakdown. The gate probably hardly covered what they paid talent. Then there's production and travel costs, the Axess event, it adds up. With the Network they're getting a better cut of the total costs, but they're also the means of production, adding extra costs. That's why I'd love to see a breakdown, to see if 31 was really so much more expensive to put together than recent Manias. The Superdome is a dump and probably cheaper to run, but I'm sure MetLife costs plenty. Maybe they should stick to older football stadiums and domes.

But the way they built the marketing for the thing around $9.99 is going to make for quite a fanbase reaction when they finally do raise the price.

If 13 made money, then it only made a few dollars. I wonder if it was really a lost, I wonder how many people subscribed to the WWE network just for WrestleMania 31.

Of course, we're all making the assumption that the accounts for Wrestlemania 32 includes the WWE Network subscriptions for March. I bet they don't, in fact, I'd be very surprised if it did.

Or they could totally embrace the marketing hook of 9,99 as an entry point to the Network and introduce tiered pricing. One price for all you can eat (20/month), another price for every PPV except the big four (14.99) and then an introductory/basic access costs with 4 ppvs (of your choosing, except big 4) for 9.99.

Here is a list of things they could have cut that would have made no difference in the end and costs a lot:
Musician Guest Ronda The Rock Triple H entrance Triple H Buddy,Arnold Rusev Tank Undertaker(Lets be honest,i doubt anyone cared now) Andre Battle Royale(It had no effect on anything)

See TNA this is how you blow money. Not on repainted belts and WWE rejects, but on Japanese drum bands and Terminator H. I wonder if that's what those guys put on their tax forms as their occupation. "Japanese Drum Band Drummer" Honesty, I just want them to play the opening solo from "Hot for Teacher"

There was no reason for this card not to be a bit more balanced in making the full-timers, not just Reigns, as being on equal footing with the part-timers. I am not surprised that with so many of the crowd favorites being treated as afterthoughts that this show was a bit of a financial bomb.
So they wanted Lesnar vs. Reigns? Fine. They weren't sure about Ziggler, Ambrose, and D-Bry having their own marquee programs? Fine. They wanted a ladder match on this show? Fine.
Here's an idea I had to get the other babyface favorites in a marquee match, AND it'd pay off a year-long storyline with a major stipulation. Rollins has to answer on behalf of himself and the Authority, putting his MITB up for grabs against five opponents that would love to not just have that opportunity, but to be the one to rip it away from him.
Money in the Bank Contract Ladder Match Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Ryback vs. Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan

Here's the thing. They lose a little bit on a high production ppv. But if subscriptions stay close to the same, they make a killing on the b level, cheap production, ppvs. Lose on 1 month, gain on a bunch of other months.
Also this might just be for the ppv, but I'm sure they do very well on Axcess week before the show.

California is the most expensive state in terms of taxes. Levi's Stadium has an ultra expensive rental rate. That's why they lost money.

I am interested in seeing a breakdown to see what exactly was the tipping point that made this particular Mania the first to lose money since last year's Mania made money despite being on the Network.

It absolutely comes down to Network subscriptions.
I wonder how many people watched for free because either WWE offered it, or because they found a loophole?

Without Taker you gotta find some other way to shoehorn Bray on to the card because no way is he getting left off. And Without the Battle Royal, you gotta find some other way to get Mark Henry, Big Show, Kane, Ryback, and The Miz on the card, because none of those guys are getting left off the show either (although honestly, I would've chosen three of those guys for the IC Ladder match over R-Truth, Harper, and Stardust)
