You gotta be class to earn class and the Royals have none. After seeing some of the things I've seen on Twitter, you would not be the one to talk about "class". Until this BS, I was all class.

Cut out the salt now, guys, no matter which way you're directing it.
I will say, the umpiring in this series was pretty horrific, especially the wandering strike zone that seemed to reappear very often. It was still probably KC's series to win, given that Toronto didn't capitalize on some early opportunities and couldn't cash in with RISP last night, but it would've been nice to see things called better, no doubt.

I was stunned to see the Mets get in the WS, congrats.. But this is Cena (KC) vs Owens (mets) in a US open challenge. Mets will look good but KC will no sell the offense and win it anyway.
Sadder still, KC has the talent get to the WS again and again. Everything that got the mets to the dance will be gone next year.
Another long long long long drought. Fun while it lasted.

Shouldn't St. Louis be Cena by this point? The Royals have gtten there twice in a row, but still haven't won since the 80's.

I think the Mets will win it. I don't know what, but there's something about KC that says, "Often a bridesmaid but never a bride".

I didn't see the game, but was at a bar so occasionally peeked in to see the score. I will say the strike zone in the 9th inning made me realize that until baseball gets robo umps, they will be the worst officiated game in all the major sports. We have the technology to have a computer call balls and strikes. I realize they may not want jobs to be eliminated, but I think people/players would rather have games called fairly for both teams rather than have an umpire suddenly start calling strikes that are 6 inches off the plate because of bias/the crowd/whatever.
I think the blame for this series falls on John Gibbons to some degree. His refusal to remove Price in Game 2 when he was giving up hard contact to everyone in the 7th directly resulted in that loss, and then last night he was down 2-1 with a runner on 2nd and out of all the relievers in his pen he brings in the one guy who can't strike anyone out and can barely initiate swings and misses (Aaron Sanchez). With a team that makes contact, why bring in a reliever that initiates contact? Even if it's a groundball, if it sneaks through the infield, you're down another run (which ended up being huge). Someone like Mark Lowe or Liam Hendriks were right there and Gibbons has a very unwarranted liking for Sanchez and it cost him in games 2 and 6.
At some point, "old school managers" will start to become extinct. It hasn't happened yet. The Blue Jays were hurt by having one this year.

Fun while it lasted. ...What are you talking about? The crux of the Mets team this year was the starting rotation, which wasn't as complete as it is now back in April. From Day One next season, assuming good health, the rotation will be Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and somebody to fill in the fifth spot until Wheeler, who also tosses 95+, makes his return around midseason. Familia will still be the closer, and will be set up by Robles and Reed, who, despite not being used much this October, are actually two very nice options - this also assumes that the really solid Mets' farm system doesn't bring up more young arms for the pen. Murphy or Cespedes may be out of the lineup, but the other six bats in the lineup all hit 100 wRC+ or over, some of them are younger and likely to improve (Conforto, Flores, d'Arnaud), and the extra playoff revenue means the Mets likely have enough money to invest in another bat or two (e.g. re-signing Cespedes, going after Heyward, or signing Zobrist, etc.). Certainly, it's hard to bank on what David Wright will be next season given his back condition, and they'll need to address it if both Ces and Murph walk, but given the rotation, the rest of the lineup, and given how the rest of the NL East currently looks, there's no reason why the Mets shouldn't be contending for the division against next season. For this World Series, there's one thing I'm concerned about: the Mets pitchers feasted on the Cubs largely thanks to Chicago's awful hitting against 95+ mph heat, while KC has the best average in MLB against such pitches. That'll certainly make things more difficult, but thankfully the Mets' rotation (and Familia) also boasts a solid array of offspeed stuff, so we'll likely see quite a bit of that. Mets in 5, because I'll have a ticket to be there.

Happy to see the Royals get back into it.
I shouldn't have read the last couple pages on here though. Jesus Christ.

I still don't like how comfortable Collins is with using Familia for more than an inning. I fear that's gonna bite him in the ass.

I still don't like how comfortable Collins is with using Familia for more than an inning. I fear that's gonna bite him in the ass. Not sure why that's a negative; Familia has proven to be highly effective in those situations, so why not bring in your best arm to bring the hammer down when needed? Familia is also a physical beast: tall, strong, lot of durability, plus he's heading into the WS with six days off. He did look a bit more tired during the Chicago series, but the Mets had also just gone the full five against LA, so there wasn't any time off, and he still got the job done nicely. The bigger problem is a few of the guys in middle relief. Colon has been wonderful out of the pen, but he'll often pitch to contact, which the Royals do well against; Clippard has been better than he was when he was having back spasms in September, but still looks vulnerable out there; Reed is a nice addition, but he's not a great option to bring in with runners already on base; etc. etc. If there's going to be a problem for the Mets this series, I figure it'll be some moments with the middle relievers, and the Royals hitting ground balls past Murphy and Flores up the middle.

Interesting look here. The last time the Royals won a World Series was 1985, which was their only one. The last time the Mets won was 1986, which was their second. Some of the things that happened 30 years ago from then:
1985:
Wrestlemania debuted at Madison Square Garden.
Studio Ghibli, the film company that brought us such anime classics as Kiko's Delivery Service, Pom Poko, Castle in the Sky, and many other classics, was formed.
The Black Cauldron debuted in theaters, which was the movie that many see as the one that almost killed Disney.
New Coke was released, which brought about massive backlash, until Coca-Cola Classic was brought back.
Back to the Future debuted in theaters, and stands as a classic movie to this day.
Pete Rose became the all-time hit leader.
The Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, was released.
1986:
Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrates during takeoff, killing all 7 on board.
The Legend of Zelda is released, bringing about a franchise that still continues on to this day.
The Chicago Bears finished their Super Bowl Shuffle, winning Super Bowl XX against the New England Patriots, 46-10.
The Chernobyl disaster occurs, only one of two nuclear accidents that were listed as Level 7 events, the max classification.
Mike Tyson wins his first heavyweight championship in boxing.
Those are just some of the events that occurred those two years. There are tons more that I can't recall, but it's amazing how much time has passed since these two teams won their last World titles.

The 1985 World Series could have easily been the Mets vs Royals. The Mets won 98 games and were in a dogfight with the Cardinals for most of the season until last week of the season.

For my Pick I say Royals in 5. Every time I picked against them they proved me wrong. That Houston Series show me how hard it is to beat them
