I transitioned over this morning and gave it a go. There's nothing wrong with it per say, but I switched back to 7 after a few hours.

It's ok. I just don't like how my microphone doesn't work with Cortana and the fact that there's too much white on the color of the windows. Hopefully they can update that in the near future.

Still waiting on my e-mail from Windows with the link to download it.
I got one telling me to expect it when I reserved it, but nothing, yet.
Edit: It may be possible I misread the E-Mail, and just need to physically do the download.

About the microphone thing, they've started putting new "Cortana-ready" microphones in Windows 10 laptops and such so I don't think any microphone that isn't those will work great for it. Mine doesn't work either and my laptop isn't even that old.

According to Google, it's iffy depending on your microphone model. Some websites are saying it works perfectly fine if you get the settings right, some are saying you don't have to do anything (which seems false based on my experiences), and some are just saying that their mics don't work at all. I dunno, maybe wait until USB mics come out that are made for Cortana? It's certainly not something you should just buy a new laptop for, but Cortana seems useful so I'd wait.

For some reason now that I switched, whenever I close my laptop, it refuses to get out of sleep mode when I open it up again. I have to restart it completely by turning it off via the power button. Is anybody else dealing with this problem?

Is anybody else dealing with this problem? My screen goes black faster and I have to move my mouse and takes longer than usual to respond but no I don't have to use the power button or anything. Still kind of annoying.

Is anybody else dealing with this problem? The only thing I'd recommend there is changing what happens when you close your lid in the power settings. I've had that problem happen to me on Windows 7,8,and 8.1 so I don't think it's just a 10 issue. The worst I've had so far is locking takes a pretty long time to actually do sometimes.

What setting(s) do you suggest I toggle? I actually already looked in that part of my settings, but wasn't sure what to mess around with.

I clicked the icon at the bottom and 'reserved' my copy, but I haven't gotten any notifications or prompts to actually upgrade to it yet. Same here. The message I get now is that they're rolling it out in waves and they'll let me know when it's ready. I heard somewhere that their roll out is based on your computer manufacturer having drivers ready for Windows 10. So if you PC maker is slow, it will take more time to get the upgrade. As for me, I'll be waiting to see if there are any problems (no major ones for the moment) and until the drivers for my computer are out (dual booting my Macbook Pro with 8.1 right now).

Well, that's pretty much the core complaint with Windows 8: it's terrible as a desktop or laptop PC OS if you don't have a touch screen. It's nice for tablets or ultrabooks, but that's about it. 8.1 did make it a bit more traditional PC friendly, but not as much as W7 or W10. W10 is neat where it's technically one kernel for everything, but it can specialize for different platforms. So Windows 10 on a desktop will function differently than Windows 10 on a tablet despite being the same exact OS.

I'm having problems with the Edge Browser as well. It won't load a page it just keeps saying, "This page is having a problem loading". Anybody else have that problem?

You'll want to go to power settings by clicking the battery symbol and then "power and sleep settings", then click "additional power settings" at the bottom under "Related settings", next you'll want to click "Choose what closing the lid does" on the left pane, and then under "When I close the lid", change the "Sleep" option in the drop-down menu to "Do nothing" for both battery and when it's plugged in. Depending on whether you use your laptop more on battery power than plugged in, it might affect your battery life, but it's a decent fix.

Smooth sailing for me outside of having to uninstall, download and reinstall Asus Smart Gesture. I wasn't too bothered by Windows 8, but I figured eh, what the Hell, this might be Skynet right?

I actually liked a lot of the "tablet-friendly" stuff like the bigger buttons/icons and all that, and 8 was a lot faster on my laptop than 7 so it wasn't like it was a terrible experience or anything. There were a few weird cases where drivers wouldn't install and I'd have to hunt them down manually, but I would've been completely fine with 8/8.1 if they didn't go all-in on the whole tablet craze.
