YMMV and all, but it's worth a shot since nobody really knows how long it'll take to get everyone up and running.

I do not get why Windows 8 gets so much hate. I have been using it for about 6 months and love it. But I have heard it works better when you have a touchscreen, which I do. Well, that's pretty much the core complaint with Windows 8: it's terrible as a desktop or laptop PC OS if you don't have a touch screen. It's nice for tablets or ultrabooks, but that's about it. 8.1 did make it a bit more traditional PC friendly, but not as much as W7 or W10. W10 is neat where it's technically one kernel for everything, but it can specialize for different platforms. So Windows 10 on a desktop will function differently than Windows 10 on a tablet despite being the same exact OS. I had heard it wasn't worth a crap on non-touchscreens. So when I got my laptop I made sure it had a touchscreen.

I got Windows 10 now. So far I really like it. There's a few things I need to get use to like a bigger window (taskbar is smaller than on 8) and having music not be on the media player. Still messing around with it but it's much more simplified and anything I wanted to change, I was able to change with ease. Edge is a good browser if you just want a vanilla browser without all the fancy stuff Chrome or Firefox has. I honestly thought the last version of IE was not bad, but Edge is a good browser.

Just found out you gave to pay to play Solitaire without ads. And it's not a one-off payment, it's a yearly subscription for $10! Ok, I know Windows are giving away a brand new OS for free and yes, it's 2015, you can play Solitaire for free just about anywhere and many other far more advanced games too.
But still, that seems a bit shitty.

W10 is neat where it's technically one kernel for everything, but it can specialize for different platforms. So Windows 10 on a desktop will function differently than Windows 10 on a tablet despite being the same exact OS. The biggest thing about 8 for me was the lack of a Start Menu. I actually liked a lot of the "tablet-friendly" stuff like the bigger buttons/icons and all that, and 8 was a lot faster on my laptop than 7 so it wasn't like it was a terrible experience or anything. There were a few weird cases where drivers wouldn't install and I'd have to hunt them down manually, but I would've been completely fine with 8/8.1 if they didn't go all-in on the whole tablet craze. Yeah, exactly. They pretty much just made Windows 8 to work great with their Surface and anything like the Surface and left traditional PC users out in the cold. Windows 10 basically takes the best features of Windows 7 and 8 and meshes them together while having an OS that should work great on any platform it's installed on. And they got rid of that horrid charms bar from W8. And it finally implemented virtual desktops, something Linux and OSX users have been able to enjoy for years now. Though paying for an ad-free Solitaire is bullshit.

The upgrade notification wouldn't show up for me so I downloaded Win 10 from here www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10I actually tested some games to see if I got a performance boost like a few people claimed. In Witcher 3 I gained a few fps, Shadow of Mordor I gained 5-10 fps, AC4 no change.

I have my windows 8 set up perfect to my liking and have no issues so would hate to risk losing that by upgrading. No idea if all my settings and programs would transfer or not. After reading that article I think I'll just keep 8.

Have not upgraded yet but just curious before I did... does all your documents you save on 8 transfer automatically to 10 or do you have to manually safe them on flash drives or emailing them to keep them?

Okay, seems my audio is fine unless my headphones are plugged in. Things sound underwater with them.
