What wrestler lost a bit of their magic when they changed up how they looked. Hair colour, beard, attire, physical appearance?
Ken Patera, when he came back smaller after his jail term with brown hair...he looked like my aunt going through menopause.
Macho Man with the tights, dyed hair, and neon cowboy hats.
Rey Mysterio without the mask.
Nikita Koloff with his size and hair.
Anyone got some suggestions?

I'd say Kevin Thorn, but losing Ariel started the downturn.

Chris Harris when he Braden Walker'd himself into ECW....he (and his bookings) went to hell quickly.
Test after the steroids and short hair....he definitely slowed down and wasn't anywhere as great as he was when he debuted.

I feel like going from an established look to short trunks always seems to have only two outcomes: either they successfully move on past their previous character and are taken seriously as main event characters (Trips, Jericho, Miz) or it takes away everything that was remotely interesting about them and they flounder (nearly everyone else that's done it).
I don't think there's really been any middle ground.

I'd say Kevin Thorn, but losing Ariel started the downturn. Pretty sure Kevin Thorn was already at the bottom.

I'd say Kevin Thorn, but losing Ariel started the downturn. Pretty sure Kevin Thorn was already at the bottom. I wouldn't say that's true. On the ECW brand, he was heavily pushed and seemed to be developing nicely. Then they took Ariel and he just became mostly inconsequential in the New Breed. He got injured, got a major look change, becoming significantly more generic, and got released in short order. He would have probably had issues eventually, given he apparently had developed a reputation in developmental of being lazy, as well as accusations, founded or unfounded, from Jason Sensation, but it did him no favors to give him a gimmick-idectomy.

Superstar Billy Graham shaved his head and became a serious martial arts character (even dropping the Superstar nickname).
And that very brief time Dolph Ziggler "New and Improved" himself.

In ROH, Erick Stevens was becoming a pretty big deal before he got rid of his mohawk. His push died and it seemed to have a Samson effect on his wrestling ability too. He got a lot worse.

I never got used to Shawn Michaels' looser pants. I always liked his gear before his hiatus. Of course that wasn't why he went downhill. I am sure the two are correlated though (hiding braces and loss of mass etc).

His push died because they switched bookers, not because of his hair or look. he was one of the main people in the ROH/SnS Inc feud, but once Gabe was fired and the feud was over, Peace didn't do anything with him, so he just wrestled for a year before being put in the dead end Necro Butcher/Embassy feud where they stuck everyone they didn't know what to do with

I wouldn't say Macho, he had his matches and feuds with Warrior, Roberts, and Flair to name a few after he switched attires.

Oh, he had a couple of good matches...but for me, from Memphis until Mania 5 was his peak...everything else after pales in comparison. Kinda like Hennig and his run from 90 onwards...

Ill add the Road Warriors as well. As soon as they got to WWF, and strictly used the red shoulder pads, they were sunk. The WWF run killed them off.
