The new tv rights deal for the AFL is breaking,..
Staying on Channel 7 and Foxtel I'm afraid.. And it gets worse, that Super Saturday that fox footy have been doing... Well that was to lead into all AFL matches will behind the paywall on Saturday's.
Look I can complain about callers, shitty buggy streaming apps.. But that is awful
Remember when the Big Bash 20/20 cricket was gaining some serious momentum a few years ago.. Match everyday on channel 10 (except when a one dayer was happening), near sell out crowds at every match.. Then 10 lost the rights channel 7 and Foxtel... Most of the matches ended behind a paywall and the momentum took a massive nose dive.
Not saying that will happen to the AFL.. But they will get wake up call in a few years when less people watching on tv, leads to less people caring, less people going to games.

A tale of contrasts for the two reigning champions in Australian sport… Penrith are the first team into the NRL preliminaries after a win over Parramatta, while it looks like Melbourne are about to bow out in the AFL semis to Brisbane.

Might have spoken too soon about the AFL… Goodness knows there’s enough time. EDIT: Now it’s over.

And we have our Final Four in the AFL
The Prelim Finals to determine who go to the main event of the Grand Final will be contested between:
The Sydney Swans vs Collingwood at the SCG
And
Geelong vs the Brisbane Lions at the MCG...
An entirely East Coast affair.

In the NRL, Melbourne are the first team to drop after a home upset to Canberra, while North Queensland, who a lot of experts were predicting to run last this season, are now one win away from the Grand Final after a 93rd minute two-point field goal got them home over Cronulla.

South Sydney with the third numerical upset of the first week of finals, eliminating Sydney.
Which leaves next week’s semi finals as:
#2-Cronulla v #7-South Sydney (MOD FIGHT) #4-Parramatta v #8-Canberra

Sydney have held on win by a point against the Pies in a absolute nail biter... I know how that feels Swans fans... Was in the stands for three straight close prelims.
Anyway your 2022 Grand Finalists are the Cats from Geelong vs the Swans from Sydney..
Can the Cats ends year's of choking in the finals and break a decade long premiership drought, can Buddy finally get his third premiership after moving to the Swans 8 years ago.
We will find out next week the Grand Final returns to the MCG after two seasons interstate.
And what is the record between these two teams when facing each other in Grand Finals?
Geelong: 0 Sydney/South Melbourne: 0
Yes that’s right, for the first time in those two clubs entire history (dating back to 1897!) these two teams will meet in a Grand Final
And while we won't know until the teams are announced.. Three players might play in their sixth grand final..
Joel Selwood (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2019) Lance Franklin (2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016) Isaac Smith (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019)

And in the FAN Mod Bowl, Woody’s South Sydney Rabbitohs eliminate EoE’s Cronulla Sharks to advance to a grand final qualifier (and grand final rematch from 2021) against defending champions Penrith.

Worlds biggest asterisk on Cripps winning the brownlow, just like when Judd won the brownlow in 2010 despite visibly gouging the face of Matt Pavlich.

Maybe some big expansion news coming up later in the day for the AFL
Still a couple of big hurdles left, but it’s looking like Tasmania will be finally getting a team in the Australian Football League. They have a site in Hobart for a new 30,000 seat stadium, which the AFL will back. They just need approval by other team presidents, and need some federal funding.

Lance Franklin has ended speculation that he is (depending on Saturday’s result) retiring or moving on after the Grand Final by agreeing to play for the Swans for one more season.

It’s a 10th flag for the Geelong Cats, as they absolutely sunk the slipper into a very disappointing Sydney Swans to the tune of an 81-point win in the AFL Grand Final.

Former Hawk and former Gojira favourite Isaac Smith wins the Norm Smith... Congrats to him
Now I have to be serious for a moment. This week in football for me really sucked. The report into racism at the Hawthorn Football Club, and finding out people I admired and respected turned out to be complete c***s.. It really hurt. Not even remotely as bad as the victims of the alleged abuse copped. It's a betrayal of trust to me as a supporter as well. Has smeared some of the greatest sporting moments I have witnessed with horrible shit. It will be hard to go back and look at the glory years of 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2015 again.
Seriously I not felt this after finding out what Benoit did in his final moments of life.
I said I would be doing a post ripping off Five Points Vids and triggering every AFL FANBASE in one post... Not going to do it now. Started writing it, but now is not a good time... Sorry.
As for those glory years, yell as said it's going to be hard to go back to them. Unlike the Benoit thing where I can just stop watching matches, he is involved. It's a team sport so I will still remember those glory years with fondness (probably won't rewatch matches in full, will stick to individual highlights) but I will credit just the players going forward, and won't give any kudos to the c***s in charge.

It’ll be a western shootout in the NRL Grand Final, as the defending champions Penrith eliminate South Sydney and set up a bout for all the chocolates against Parramatta.
