Interesting to see how the Swans respond to this defeat.
A team that gets absolutely smashed on Grand Final day.. Large score margin, not kicking many goals.. It's usually the beginning of the end of the coaching team.
Some recent examples: Port Adelaide in 2007, Adelaide in 2017, and GWS in 2019.

Longmire is the current longest-serving coach for any team right now, right? Might be due for a change anyway.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood is excepted to announce his retirement later today after Saturday’s premiership win.
He will end his playing career as a four time premiership player.. with the interesting stat of winning one in his debut season and finishing his career with another.
On a serious not, he took a lot of head knocks in his career, and he comes off as nice guy.. I just hope he does not suffer any long term head brain injuries.

Hopefully there isn’t a shitfight about that like there was with the Manly Sea Eagles NRL team doing a pride jersey, probably killing off any future attempts of an NRL team doing it.

Trade period ended.. few notable changes. Not going to list them here.
In a surprising yet not totally that surprising news is that St Kilda and decided to part ways with coach Brett Ratten after a review. Surprising in that he has not been there that long, his contract was extended earlier in the year, and while a drop off late in the season they were not far off from finals, and dropping the coach at this stage of the year is pretty late by normal standards, usually when a coach is sacked it’s during the season, or immediately after that team’s season wrapped up.
The not surprising part.. it’s St Kilda .. they go through coaches like Spinal Tap drummers.

Some sad news
Long time Swans supporter Kenny Williams has passed away at the age if 93. He could often be seen after Swans victories leading the team’s club song becoming a bit of a mascot for the team.

NRL underway for 2023, and the big story of the round... Expansion team the "I Can't Believe They're Not Redcliffe" Dolphins getting the win first up over the heavyweight Sydney Roosters. Even though the Cronulla Sharks are my team, I'm pumped for that since most of my family on my mother's side live in the Redcliffe area.

Sorry for not updating the AFL portion.
My mind has been elsewhere since Hawthorn has been in this rebuilding phase. Flying out the country this week. But attending my first match for the season tonight .. where it’s likely the Hawks will get smashed by the Bulldogs at Marvel.
Anyway just a quick news update. The Tasmanian AFL team is all but confirmed. It looks like the Federal Budget this week is gonna help get the team off the ground (not sure the deets, think it’s a Stadium funding thing) .. also announced the team’s home ground will be partially shared between Hobart and Launceston … sort of like GWS has home games in Canberra sometimes.
Still no word on the mascot/nickname but the popular consensus is that they will be the Tasmanian Devils (after the native marsupial) they could do some cross promotion with WB with that .. other ideas are The Islanders, The Tassies, The Hudson’s (named after one of their most famous players), The Koalas, The Wombats, The Miners, The Orchids, or The Spirits.
The men’s team is expected to enter the competition in 2027. Sure there will be woman’s team too but not heard much on that.. probably at the same time most likely.
Also that would make it a 19 team competition, which is an odd number so that will bring the return of the weekly bye for one team a round. So they the AFL might try and round it out and bring in a 20th team sometime over the next decade. Maybe a Northern Territory team.

Well, I'm off to the NRL Magic Round this weekend (Context: all the matches in one round are held at the one stadium), my first live games of footy since before the pandemic, and my first outside of my home city.

Returned from the U.S northeast on Saturday.. Couldn't watch any footy cause I could not find a legal way to watch it. Not that I would of due to the time difference. Tell you what after attending 4 baseball games (3 majors and a minor) ... All Australian sports need to up their concession games.. C’mon MCG, sakted peanuts in their shells.. Makes a mess with all those shells.. But those were awesome... You can't even buy them in stores here. I think you can get unsalted peanuts in fresh produce aisles.
Anyway some big news today

There was an incident in game between in the match between the Saints and the Swans when Butler laid a dangerous tackle on Blakey .. so Butler was suspended for one match..
Blakey was reached out for comment and responded with “I’ll get you for this Butler…. This tribunal hearing was due out ten minutes ago!”
