Or should I say, I hate the more recent versions of the character. The Harley of my childhood may have been in love with the most deranged psychopath in all of DC comicdom, but she still had an innocent side to her. She was more goofy than deranged. But the Harley we so often see today is a character that I find little ability to empathize with, and it seems like they are relying on her ever increasingly sluttified outfits to make the audience root for her. Which brings me to my biggest sticking point: yeah, when I was a kid they definitely threw some innuendo into some of Harley's dialogue, but fort he most part she was more cute than blatantly sexual. The Harley of today seems like the village bloody village bicycle! I'd think the Joker would have gotten sick of getting everyone else's second helpings by now. Why must DC take such a fun, sweet, unique, and lovable character and maker her into some sort of over trampified abomination of her former self? Is this an effect of our over-sexualized media? Did that bloody Heath Ledger version of the Joker have such a lasting impact that now all Batman villains have to be depressing caricatures of their original incarnations? Or is this just some lame attempt to see "cutting edge" and "controversial???"
...or is it just that all the people drawing/writing the character today are nerds who had wet dreams about Harley because they watched the show when they were kids? Yeah, that's probably it.

I do pretty well think she mostly only worked in the animated series. But I guess we'll see how she translates to live action.

I don't mind the outfit variations, her Arkham look and especially her flapper Brave and the Bold design kick ass. But I also don't read DC's monthlys that often anymore, is she being written that badly now?

She's written very well in her own book these days. Pretty much not a villain at all there so that could, for some, be bad enough already; but her ongoing seems far truer to what everything people like about her. And the newer look is treated as well as possible there too. It seems, though, that in anything Suicide Squad related she looks and is written atrociously. And I can't say as of yet that I'm confident her forthcoming movie appearance will be more like the former...

I don't mind Harley evolving as a character away from the cracked, but ditsy sidekick to Mr. J, but nothing from the comics has really impressed me that much.
I think a much more interesting direction would have been gradually rotting Harley away from the inside; with the Joker's treatment of her twisting her mind so much that eventually becomes someone incapable of understanding real affection and kindness anymore. Outwardly she does want to everybody's friend, yet her idea of how friends treat each other is so rooted in something dark she's in some ways scarier than the Joker; the clown is outwardly horrifying, but the jester is so outwardly pleasant it makes the subsequent acts even worse to experience. Rather than going for the more skimpy outfits, this is a Harley whose attempts at more friendly and welcoming attire (smiley faces, big eyes on the makeup, colorful stockings) would underscore the creepy persona of a big kid capable of terrible acts.
And you could still avoid direct comparisons to Mr. J by their central attitudes and actions. Joker is the entertainer on stage often willing to kill for a laugh. Harley is the prankster friend "ribbing" others who will never kill; she'll just make you wish you were dead.

I'm glad they changed her up.
When characters stay the same for years and years they get boring as heck to me.
So what if she's a little more grown up and wants to be a little more mature.
I can't tell which is stranger, people slut-shaming or infantilizing a character who is largely supposed to be a mentally deranged sociopath.

My thoughts? People over analyze everything in entertainment these days..just enjoy it, jeeze.
"Everything sucks" is grating after a while.

I agree with the OP here. Everything that came after BTAS is really annoying.

In so many incarnations she acts more like a hyper-active, ADD wracked kid than ever before. Just now even mroe violent and sleazy.

I disagree, she seems like she's enter into the "emerging adulthood" phase of her life in terms of her character. Plus more "more violent and sleazy" as far as criminals go is kind of the natural progression the longer they stay in the crime game. Like I said. Characters never changing is something alot of CB fans love and I get why, but I like when they grow/change/etc.

MAD LOVE came out over 20 years ago now, and Harley trying to seduce the Joker in that is as risque as anything I'd personally seen her do since.
And she needs to stay as far away from the Joker as possible. They were right to have them seperate in her first series in 2001.
I have no particular strong feelings towards this character, but DC did do a reboot so I'm happy they changed her either way. Reboot and keeping people to close to how they were is pointless.

I really like her character in the standalone by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. She's much more independent, realizes just how abusive and outright evil Joker was, and she's pretty much an antihero now who fights crime in Brooklyn. Hell, she even started practicing psychiatry again!
I also always preferred when she and Ivy were partners to her being Joker's sidekick.
