From Death Battle's history and what people have said on this thread, any thought is probably more than they put into it. Also, the summons are shown to work in more real time elsewhere in other sources, so no reason not to use them once again, not sure if they used kinetic energy for it. Seems to come more under the labeling of magic. Also, they could have given her a chocobo as well under their reasoning. I don't mind bullshit, just so long as it's consistent bullshit. Well then this is consistent bullshit as they limited Cloud in the exact same ways when he fought Link. No summons, only two materia(fire and thunder), his best possible equipment, and again used his Dissidia load out to determine most of it. For what it's worth, they mentioned at a panel that they're reluctant to use RPG characters because so much of their skill set and equipment is left up to the player.

Denying him summons takes away some of his best equipment. If they're giving the Final Fantasy characters their best syufg, summons should be near the top of the list. As I said, whatever reasoning they seem to use, when and if they use it, seems to be more about nerfing certain characters than anything.

Nah, Cloud they gave him his most "iconic" weapon, which was his weakest. They should have given him his Advent Children weapon. Granted, in a non-rpg world, such things don't mean as much. If they're going to use RPG characters, probably better off to stick with villains since they have a set load out and power level. Luca Blight would make a badass death battle fighter.

I'm still not sure why they went for Cloud vs. Link, aside from getting views. They seem to have little in common. Cloud vs. Squall would have been better. And Sora vs. Justin from Grandia would be an interesting one.

It's the same reason they did Mario vs. Sonic, other than the Nintendo/SEGA rivalry, they have nothing in common to do a Death Battle off of.

Cloud vs. Squall probably depends on who gets their ultimate limit off first, although FFVIII's limit system is way more broken than FFVII's.

I can see Mario vs. Sonic because you had them being the mascots of their companies at time of the rivalry. They were also the same genre at least. Zelda games and Final Fantasy lack those connections however. If I was going to go with someone for Link, Simon Belmont seems like a better candidate.

Ah, those are slightly better connections, although Cloud spoke a lot more than Link. Shiek might have been a more fun choice, battle of the blonde cross dressers and that.

I'd say Alucard more than Simon. Simon doesn't have the magical ability, IIRC, and both are heroes of a hack and slash games.

Gotta go with Greymon. I mean, if he warp digivolves to WarGreymon, he'd mop the floor with Charizard.
I miss Digimon. The GOOD Digimon.

Absoloutley no way Charizard wins this unless they pull a superman and goku which wont be unlikely and they completely go and nullify and ignore certain elements thus negating one character over the other...and even then there is nothing they can do outside of pulling a montreal screwjob that puts this battle in Charizards favor.
It will be an even battle untill Metal Greymon show up....going to War Greymon is pretty much overkill.

Thank gawd they did not pull any shenanigans with this one and their reasoning is exactly what everyone had already said. {Spoiler}Digimon's power as they evolve gets freaking obsurd , the fact they outright skipped over Metal Greymon shows how much of an overkill war greymon is

Gonna give this one to Bayo but it is probably gonna be closer than it really should , the big thing about Dante in this fight is going to his healing factor.
But idk how much of that is gonna matter up against a woman who PUNCHED THE SPIRIT OUT OF A GODLIKE BEING INTO THE SUN AND THEN DOVE IN HERSELF AND CHOPPED IT INTO BITS JUST TO MAKE SURE SHE FINISHED THE JOB!

Not only that but Bayonetta uses 4 guns at once. Dante only uses two. Basic math, folks!

OK, I never played Bayo, but Dante is less annoyed by a sword through the gut than I am stubbing my toe. In no alternate universe (not even DmC, where he may actually be MORE powerful) does Dante lose this unless they pull more research failure (SSG wasn't much of an upgrade? Get out of here, it had half of the power to punch the universe apart)

Bayonetta suplexes a multi-headed dragon, therefore she wins.
