I'm going with Tifa due to the fact that she went up against Sephiroth alone, and she lived. I barely know anything about Yang, though, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Well, they had Cloud lose to frikkin Link, so I'm thinking other person I've never heard of that has gun hands will win.

Aw, thought this was Yang from FFIV for a second.

They gave Cloud his default weapon and some basic Materia in his fight with Link. I can only assume they'll be doing the same for Tifa.

That said, I haven't watched enough episodes of RWBY to know how powerful Yang actually is, so Tifa could well have the advantage even without any power-ups.

Either way, this is one of those battles where I don't really care who wins, and I've found that those are the most enjoyable ones. (Unless a character I hate loses, then I enjoy the Hell out of it).

The comment section on youtube has been relatively calm, but there are accusations of Screw Attack showing favortism to RWBY.

I think, more likely, they picked a fight where the winner would be obvious based on their abilities rather than fudging something to benefit RWBY. I've never seen RWBY, but someone with the powers they described beats someone like Tifa 9 times out of 10. I read that they had Yang's VA involved doing the voice, but I don't think it would have really mattered. Anything Tifa does she can throw back even bigger, so unless Tifa could one-shot her, Yang wins. And because anime characters are often more ridiculously OP'ed than even videogame characters, that's not likely to happen.

So this battle end with Tifa winning with Knights of The Round? It's the only way that battles with FF7 characters can go really. Well, that and most other Final Fantasies with their own ultimate summons. It's kind of their thing.

I believe summons fall under their "no outside help" rule for these battles, unless the character's entire thing is having outside help like with Wily and Robotnik. They based her materia array the dissidia games

I mean, it would work if they did something like, say, Garnet from FFIX vs Yugi from Yu Gi Oh.

It's a sticky rule with JRPG characters, who might have a huge array of potential set ups. But honestly, I don't think it really matters in that given how they described Yang. As long as Tifa doesn't one shot her, she wins.

Basically if they gave FF7 characters access to all the materia in the game it would make things way too complex, so they try to go with the closest thing they can find to a "canon" set of materia for each character. And in this case Tifa uses fire and ice materia in Dissidia so that is the only materia they accounted for. Not lightning, no water, no healing.

But the summons AREN'T outside help. They're magic taken on form of Dragons, Gods, old guys on mountains etc. They're not sentient beings giving help, they're tools to be used. They're more powerful versions of lightning, fire and other magic, basically. There's no real reason not to include them.
