Has there been any confirmation about whether this is Prime or Kelvin or some third timeline? It's been confirmed it is in the Prime timeline. So, was the Jason Isaacs casting not an actual thing? I'd really prefer him over Michelle Yeoh. He plays the captain of the Discovery but is not a major character. Michelle Yeoh plays the captain of a different ship. From the same article quoted above:

Yeah, this should be after Voyager & not before the original series.

Cast is solid, but it looks more like "Disney Presents JJ Abram's Star Trek (but really more like Star Wars) The Show!(TM)"

The ship Michelle Yeoh's character commands looks like a cross between the NX-01 Enterprise and the Miranda-class starships from the TOS movies and the 24th century Treks.
Also, the name of the ship Yeoh's character captains is the USS Shenzhou. The Discovery is a different ship.
Not a big fan of the Klingon look in this show, but then the Klingons are going through the Augment virus and going through all sorts of wacky mutations at this point of their history.

Also, I'd probably also set this either between TOS and TNG eras as that's a giant part of unexplored Federation history outside of a few bits and pieces like the Enterprise-C sacrificing itself to defend a Klingon outpost against a Romulan attack. Or post-Voyager. There's a real suspension of disbelief issue that goes along with setting a show before the show that was filmed in the 1960's while looking more futuristic. Enterprise was mostly able to achieve that as the NX-01 definitely felt like a less technologically advanced vessel compared to even the 23rd century Enterprise as everything as very cramped and utilitarian. But the Shenzhou and probably the Discovery look like they could be more advanced than even the 24th century ships.

For a series that's supposed to be looking toward the future Star Trek's spent waaaay too long dwelling in the past.

While Star Trek Online does a good job of scratching my 25th century itch, I do want to see a post-Star Trek 2009 show set in the prime universe that deals with the fallout from Romulus being destroyed by that supernova. That's gotta result in a huge shift in the balance of power in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.

A little more information about Michael:
She's the first ever human to attend the Vulcan Science Academy and was also practically raised on Vulcan. Sarek plays a role as a mentor figure to her.
Sort of the anti-Spock in a way, as Spock was supposed to be the first Vulcan (well, half-Vulcan anyway) to attend Starfleet Academy unless that got retconned post-TOS. I could also see Zachary Quinto guest starring as a younger prime universe version of Spock here and there too.

Nice.
Wonder if LeVar Burton will direct an episode or two. IIRC he directed a whole bunch of Voyager and Enterprise episodes.

It looks nothing like the Prime Universe to me. Looks entirely like the Abramsverse.

Yeah, this should be after Voyager & not before the original series. I agree, I'm sick of prequels in general.

You know between this and Sybok, I'm beginning to think Spock had some entirely extended family on Vulcan that he never felt like mentioning to anybody. At this rate the next film will reveal he had a drop in Cardassian uncle who turns out to be Garak's grandfather or something.

I personally don't care what timeline or century it takes place in, as long as it looks and feels like Star Trek. I know you can't always trust trailers, but so far this looks and feels nothing like Star Trek.

Well.... It looks better than Enterprise or TNG season one, I guess, but it still looks pretty bad. And that Sarek thing is really, really stupid.
