Makes sense. I mean he isn't going to be looked at as one of the pillars of the future and he's done a great amount as it is. I wouldn't mind him getting a "thank you Dolph" WWE Championship run and be a big heel for someone to go over before he hangs it up though. He can win the title finally and then one of the new guys can give him a good sendoff. Would be great.

Assuming he sticks with it and does leave, he'll have had a very solid career. Even if there will be some who think he should have been bigger, he did quite a lot. Better to leave with a new goal than to have to end your career in injury. Especially considering concussions, this might be wise for him.

But two years is just... Such a long time.

And then about a year later he'll come back pushed stronger than ever before with three times the paycheck, because that's how WWE rolls.

I swear, the biggest thing holding him back was that Creative stuck him with the name Dolph Ziggler. Like, Vince saw an advertisement for Boogie Nights, chuckled, and was like "THIS WILL BE AMAZING" and that was that. Nick Nemeth is a WWE Champion name. Dolph Ziggler has Val Venis written all over it.

A lot more unique for one, and also it's very easily chantable and it does a lot to help put over Dolph's general thing over the years of being a flashy weirdo smartass.

It's an obvious (and dated) reference to a Marky Mark movie that's mostly remembered now only because of the absurdly long fake **** (Hi, Vince!) and having the second best use of a Stan Bush song in movie made since 1986. It's an overly gimmicky name that works against the talents of the guy stuck with it. There haven't been a whole lot of "cute" names to hold the WWE Championship for any great length of time. The Miz is the only one that immediately comes to mind, and even that's not on the level of "Hi! I'm Dolph Ziggler!" As for chanting, "Let's Go Ne-meth" or even "Ni-cky Ne-meth" would have been just as catchy as anything for "Ziggler".

Anyone seen his actual standup? All I've seen is what he did on Total Divas and his "louie" parody on JBL and Renee. Neither were good, but I assumed the former was WWE approved and the latter intentionally lame.

I can assure you he's opening wrestlemania 40 by fighting Kofi for the IC title.

Has anyone seen his stand-up? Is it any good? He doesn't strike me as a funny guy but that could just be the WWE effect.

Neither were good, but I assumed the former was WWE approved and the latter intentionally lame. I wore a Cactus Jack shirt when I did some time on an Andy Kindler show (it was 5 minutes, not impressive lol) and he said he met a wrestler named Nick who he thought was very funny. I confirmed he meant Dolph. But most people don't like Andy Kindler so take it for what you will. I've never looked up Dolph for myself.

If Ziggler's stand up is anything like this tweets, then it's just full of dated references, bad puns and cheesy attempts at pick up lines. So no, it probably wouldn't be very good.

Why, after all this time, has no one told Ziggler that a key component to being a comedian is being funny?

That's why you need to appreciate him while he is here.

But he's "entertaining", not wrestling.
So, crap, he'll never go away.
