I honestly don't understand why there's so much vitriol directed toward him.
His striking is some of the best in the company, it all looks very real. He's actually capable of getting heat, arenas love to boo him, unlike the vast majority of heels who can be total dicks yet still manage to get 50% of the crowd chanting for them.
He has a larger than life look and has actually competed in some fantastic matches, all his work with Bryan (other than 18 seconds) for example was stellar. Also saw him have easily the match of the night with Finn Balor at a recent house show (he got a hell of a lot of heat), The match he had with Cesaro the other week was f***ing awesome as well.
I think people see him as a WWE manafactured hoss, in reality he spent years toiling away on the indies. I have vague memories of when he was Sheamus O Shauny on Irish Whip Wrestling which used to air on the wrestling channel.
I guess the way WWE have tried to book him in the past hasn't helped at all either, I think they've finally arrived at a character that works for him, instead of the car stealing wise cracking babyface they attempted to present him as

They're posting 'let's go Sheamus!'
Seriously though I love the big lug, I just have a list of like eight more guys I would rather be champion. I still prefer him to Roman though.

He's a perfectly serviceable wrestler, even downright awesome at times when he can just throw down with guys around his size, can cut a decent promo when he's not being made to tell Irish folk tales or jokes and has a truly memorable "wrestler" look with his skin and hairstyle (both original and current)... But once you get tagged as being a guy that the office likes (ESPECIALLY when there's something like 18 Seconds on his record as the guy meant to be put over from it), it's almost impossible for many to get past that, no matter how good or bad he is.

I had less problem with him being a favourite of the office than I did with them booking him as John Cena-lite.
He's a great, potentially awesome talent who is a victim of bad booking.
And like Del Rio, he never really had a chance to get over properly before they started putting this, that and every belt on him in the early days.

His godawful 2012 title run got burned by the 18 seconds fiasco, the booking teams love of the word "arse", and the ridiculous overdoing of the ADR feud where they banned the Brogue Kick just to reinstate it before the match.
Lot of people, myself included turned on him over that stretch.

His babyface run soured me on him but, his pairing with Barrett and Rusev is fun. I've become a fan again.

I like Sheamus too. I always have. He just shouldn't be WWE Champion. Simple as that.

I enjoy Sheamus well enough, but one of his problems, and there are admittedly several, is that he is one of those guys who lives and dies by chemistry with his opponent.
I'm not saying anyone carries the guy, but if he doesn't have the chemistry, the matches are dull, when some people can work with pretty much anybody. Booker T, Batista, and some others are the same way, so it's not any indictment of his skill or capacity to main event.
Daniel Bryan? Great chemistry, they compliment each other well. Del Rio? Lesser than the sum of its parts, as well as overdone to comic degree. Big Show? Weirdly, pretty solid, though they've done enough of that and should give it a rest. Orton? Similar story to Del Rio, they don't compliment each other that well and have wrestled way too much.
Whether this reign thrives or flops will depend very much on who he's wrestling. Shame Cesaro's injured, since I think they work well together. Roman and Sheamus should be fine, in terms of ring work, as long as they clobber the hell out of each other.

I like Sheamus too. I'd be totally into his title reign if he hadn't been booked like a glorified jobber for the past six months.

I like Sheamus enough, I think he's somewhat charismatic and a pretty solid worker.
I also didn't like when wwe saw that and decided they immediatlly needed to make him a multi time champ and make him a ccornball "haha sheamus likes to have fun and crack jokes but in the ring he's all business!!!" Face. That stretch of sheamus was about as unbearable a guys run on the top I ever remember
