Saw the episode today. Thought it was really good.
I liked the premise, with the callback to episode one and her various ways to trip it up, evengoing so far as to cast Twilight as the villain when she convinces the bullies not to pick on Fluttershy (which was absolutely genius to me). The animation has been really good this season, and the sarcastic clap is probably going to be the best gif this show has had. I loved all the explorations of the alteranate world's, showing all the various ways chaos can ensue with whatever villain coming out on top (although I don't get how Flim and Flam ever win).
I thought they did her backstory mostly well, with the one exception that they really didn't get into her cutie mark at all. I think it was a little bit rushed, but I mostly imagined it happening the way they said, once he got his cutiemark, he moved away and they lost all touch as he was consumed in his new world (which inevitably happens most of the time in the non-internet days), and was unable to ever connect with anyone else. I really like that she was an equal, if not better, than Twilight in all respects. It made her a completely different type of villain, which the show really neeed at that point.
As for her being redeemed at the end, I haven't read any of the responses here, but I think it's the way most villains should be dealt with on the show. If you're going to have a show about frienship, I don't think you can ignore that premise when it comes to the villains.
I'd give it a nine.

It's a good thing that Twilight convinced Shimmer to stop when she did. This would have been the timeline that they went to after the "Everyone dies" one.

*Late to the party post*
Sooo I just saw a practitioner of Marxist dogma go back in time changed a single event and in doing so caused a shift in power in the present and caused a whole new conflict to arise.
Yep I really did just watch a G rated version of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. (Now if they got only Ric Flair and George Takei in this episode it would had gotten a million out of ten from me.)

This also reminded me of an episode of Lupin the Third: The First Series.
Basically, a mad scientist builds a time machine, travels to the future, gets wronged by one of Lupin's descendants, and decides to kill Lupin by killing his ancestor, thus causing Lupin to cease to be. Fortunately, Lupin and the gang trick him, and destroy his time machine.
You would think that this is no biggie, BUT, in the movie Mystery of Mamo, Mamo explains that Lupin was just a random occurrence that was caused by Mamo altering history, causing some of history's biggest events to occur (as shown per slideshow in the movie. Go check it out!).
So, in theory Lupin the Third is a fixed point in time that needs to occur, otherwise causing horrific results in the space/time continuum.
Long story short: DON'T F*** WITH FIXED POINTS IN TIME JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A GRUDGE WITH SOMEONE OR YOU'LL KILL EVERYONE!!!

Going back to Starlight Glimmer's mane...
An alternative interpretation could be that her mane is done bouffant-style.

Also, am I the only one here who thinks that Glimmer is a tad older than the mane cast?
If the mane is cast is beginning-mid 20s and mares like Mrs. Cake are 40-45, then I would peck Glimmer to be 30-35ish.

Thanks, Alicia-chan. Don't know if it is more her mane style or her voice that makes her appear older.
