I shamelessly love every terrible frame of this horrible movie. Any movie where a guy does 100 front flips down a staircase just to finish a sentence is alright in my books. Yeah I don't care, I love the shittiness. The main problem with it is that instead of trying to create a movie based on Mortal Kombat, they've tried to cram the entire Mortal Kombat universe into 90 mins. That combined with embarrassing dialogue and terrible special effects, it's really enjoyable as a classic bad movie.

Another thing that gets me is the Sub Zero and Scorpion bit. Scorpion reappears with no explanation, Sub Zero shows up (at least he explains the he's the original Sub Zero's brother), they fight, Scorpion grabs Kitana and teleports away, Sub Zero vows to go after him...and neither Sub Zero or Scorpion are seen again. Well, Scorpion was already dead, so he's practically immortal.

I didnt like it at all. Johnny Cage was easily the best thing about the first film, so deciding to kill him off immediately sucked. Granted, if they hadn't brought back Linden Ashby it would've sucked anyway. He was awesome in the role.

Marketing: The Movie. This was also made from a much larger budget than the first movie, but looked cheaper.

Marketing: The Movie. This was also made from a much larger budget than the first movie, but looked cheaper. I was astounded when I saw that this had almost double the production budget of the first. They didn't have any of the actors who could've commanded any kind of salary, the costumes look like something a cosplayer put together in a weekend (though I think that might actually be an insult to cosplayers), and the CGI looked cheap even by 1997 standards. MK:A might be one of the most obvious examples of Hollywood accounting around. No way did $30m go into that production.

Shooting on location at Petra probably isn't cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if Boon and Tobias held them up for a shit ton of money too.
