If nothing else, I would hope this thread shows people what I mean about how heated conversations about this can get, haha.

I didn't read the OP or the thread but I agree, England does suck. At least we don't clap in movie theaters, what's that about? If you don't like it, I got two words for ya: TEA PARTY

Sorry to have dragged this thread down. Now please, back to debating the merrits of how live crowds enjoy shows. Stay respectful.

Personally I hope singing catches on and spreads to RAW
It might drown out the commentary

God damn, this thread got way more heated than I thought it would. I've seen some of the stuff from the show yesterday, and I enjoyed the chants. From everything I've gathered, that's more or less the norm in England at football games, so why not do it at a different sporting (well, it is to an extent) event? Like I said in the last thread we had about crowd chanting (seriously, how is this such a hugely divisive issue?): Guys, can we stop assuming that the opposing side wants the absolute extreme opinion? People that aren't huge fans of chanting crowds aren't sticks in the mud who want everybody to sit on their hands the entire show, and people that are fans aren't unrelenting jerks who just want to disrupt the show, and nothing more. Myself personally, well, somebody else in this thread but it better than I could: I pretty much draw the line at indulgent self-awareness ("WE ARE AWESOME") and possible offensiveness ("YOU SUCK *male partner*" to the women). Most other chants are fine, especially these football-influenced ones in Europe. The crowd yesterday didn't do either of those things from what I saw, so they're cool with me.

If NXT crowds bother people, they should just watch Smackdown instead, with all those totally organic crowd reactions.

Yeah? Oh yeah? Well, America....smells.....bad. Very bad! Brah, we have TWO Carolinas. How many Carolinas do you guys have??? ...Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah BUT one of those Carolinas is home to Matt Hardy. So it kinda evens itself out.

It's 2015. Wrestling crowds chant.
Either accept it, or move on. Much like how crowds evolved into cheering and booing instead of polite clapping in the 70's and 80's, they're not going to move backwards for you.

Honestly, I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't want a Corpsi Christi or an Average Town, Kentucky crowd that only chants for John Cena, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and doesn't give a shit about anyone or anything else. I also don't want random chants for dead/retired wrestlers, disrespectful chants like you f***ed up/botchamania, or songs every 2 minutes. Like it was great last nigt, but do I want to hear that all the time? God no, save it for special shows.
I want a HOT crowd, I want that balance.

If I were a live audience member at this thread, I would be chanting a version of Roy Orbison's "Crying" during several spots of this match. Or John Mellencamp's "I Saw You First" and changing it to "They Thought of it First" but that song reference is a little too obscure, unlike "Let's Go Babyface" Man, all of you guys must HATE Progress. God forbid a crowd actually have fun. In fact, I think this proves to us we need to move WrestleMania to Corpus Christi Yep, a better version of what I was trying to say. All together now, FAN... "COR-PUS CHRIS-TI ... *clap clap, clap clap clap* ... "COR-PUS CHRIS-TI..."

Personally I hope singing catches on and spreads to RAW It might drown out the commentary Yes my favourite that we sing at matches but now altered for NXT could be "We all dream of a ring of Sami Zayns, a ring of Sami Zayns" to the rhythm of A yellow submarine.

I just realized, that show on the Network is called Breaking GROUND, isn't it?
The hell was Breaking Point then, haha?
...Apparently, it was that goofy submission PPV in 2009.
I told you guys we'd learn stuff in this thread!

Post by EoE: Well There's Your Problem on Dec 17, 2015 17:19:18 GMT -5
Well then, this is nice to wake up to on my day off... For example, I'm just gonna throw in a direct quote from one of the mods of this site, taken directly from the NXT thread: I'm sorry, I know I'm probably supposed to hate it because it doesn't "show respect" to the wrestlers ( which is BS because they're chanting these things because they LOVE these guys), but I can't get the grin off my face here. Was this part really necessary? A simple "I disagree because" would have sufficed there. From someone that's supposed to be a moderator on the site, that's pretty derogatory to the other side of the argument. I get what EoE's saying (and don't get it twisted, he's an awesome guy) but remember a few paragraphs up when I said words have power? Yeah... That right there is the type of stuff that made it feel like I was under attack. Not only do I have posters coming at me, you have mods openly supporting their side and condemning the others as their viewpoint being "BS." That's nothing resembling creating an environment for open discussion because all that does is encourage others to be even more dismissive of the other side. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way with this, because that definitely wasn't the intent. Just got caught up in the unique moment of Colin Cassady getting a damn Beatles song chanted for him. The thing is, I love these kind of crowds 99% of the time. Being self-aware ("WE ARE AWESOME") or crass ("YOU SUCK *male partner*" to the women) is where I draw my line in that regard, but most of the time, I feel like it's all done BECAUSE they love these guys so much, not to be disrespectful of them or the craft. That's what I considered to be "BS"... The idea that the people who are arguably the biggest fans of this thing are the ones trying to be disrespectful by trying to show their support in different ways from the norm. The fact is, outside of basic obedience of the law and boundaries of good taste, there's no right or wrong way for a crowd to be. If they want to be rowdy and sing as they watch, that's fine. If they just want to cheer and boo, that's fine too. If they don't want to do ANYTHING, that's OK too. That said, I find it a bit harsh to say that I am not creating an environment for open dialogue here, because at times I feel like I'm in your position on other matters, mostly related to aspects of the quality of the main roster. Some of you lot get REALLY F***ING ANGRY about that, trying to find the hidden "real" meaning why so-and-so lost his match this week, so how am I supposed to come in all "It's not THAT big a deal, guys"?.

5) Everyone has a right to their opinion. If someone on a message board rants about how much they hate what a crowd does, goody gumdrops for them. But I and others have a right to say, "Sorry you were annoyed. Life is annoying. Learn to deal with it." If other people and how they act are my problem, I'm completely f---ed, because I have no control over them. People do what they do because that's what they do. If they are WAY out of line, I hope they are dealt with, ejected, whatever. If they are "trying to get themselves over" ... who am I to judge? Glad the OP made this thread and went about it the way he/she did. It's good to have a discussion. And yeah I poked a little fun high in my post. I was probably trying to get myself over. Deal with it. This ties to the other point- again, the other side has a right to their opinion too. If someone on a message board rants about how every chant, even the ones which are blatantly disrespectful to the wrestlers, are perfectly fine, goody gumdrops for you. But I and others have a right to say "Everything isn't about YOU either. You're not a special little snowflake. If you're there to get yourself over instead of watch the event and try to ruin it for everyone else, maybe you should just watch it on TV and make your cute little jokes there instead- I guarantee you the same amount of people care about what you're saying when you watch at home alone as they would in the arena."

It begs the question. If singing is objectionable, then what should they chant?
I presume "yay" for faces, and "boo" for heels, but what about the Bellas? Are they faces or heels? I can't tell.
What about wrestlers who are booked opposite to how the crowd feels? What should they have chanted for Batista when he came back?
And how loud should these chants be? What is the acceptable volume and duration?
What if you like a wrestler and the rest of the crowd boos them or vice versa? What is to be done?

It's 2015. Wrestling crowds chant. No. Smark crowds chant. What is wrong with cheering the wrestlers? Cheering is just as good as chants. Plus it ia less annoying for the people watching at home.
