One thing I'll add is that Star Wars was a complex franchise with a lot of history and detail before Phantom Menace premiered (moreso now that we have seven films, two cartoon series and a whole bunch of other stuff). It'd be hard to digest every piece of information on the spot and nitpick right away while sitting in the theater. It really did require some time for you to realize something wasn't right.
I tried to look back at what people disliked, and the simple fact I had a long list was enough to illustrate the prequels were beyond imperfect. Just look at it:
1: Jar Jar Binks 2: Midichlorians 3: Too much CGI 4: Poor dialogue 5: Wooden performances by otherwise good actors/actresses 6: Politics (I think this was necessary but understand why others hated it) 7: Poor character development 8: Jake Lloyd 9: Ethnic characters 10: Too much going on at once
Even if there were plenty of good things about the prequels, there were just too many bad things to be considered.

People thought they were good? I was literally embarrassed to be seen at the Theater after Episode 1.

Will be real interesting to see 20 years from now to see what the kids who grew up on them will have to say about the films

This is something that bothers me. Why do people have a problem with a character being anything but white? I'm not trying to get into a stupid debate over race, but I've seen a lot of racist comments in regards to ethnic people in these films and I just want to know why?

Some people just liked to complain, I guess. Personally, I watched and thought "Hey, that guy sounds stereotypically Asian. Okay, odd, but whatever."

What I'm saying is on Facebook, I've seen a lot of negative comments about black people being in the movies. Which to me, is really stupid, because when you really think about it, there's talking fish, giant hairy animals, blobs, etc., along with the main characters, so its like really? THATS what you complain about? Its lame.

Are we talking about the Gungans and the Trade Federations here? Because they both came off as horribly racist with the "messa" talk of the Gungans and the Charlie Chan accent the Trade Federation aliens had.

Well Mace Windu but people really complained about Samuel L Jackson?

Besides, John Boyega is really cute, the idea of a female Thor is pretty cool, and when people bitch about two men kissing on TWD, its kind of a stupid thing to complain about when people are being ripped to shreds minutes later on the same show.

I'd heard the Boyega stuff but nothing about SLJ back when those films came out.

And i don't remember people complaining about the prequels anything involving race.I guess i can see people complaining about black storm trooper over 'BUT IT IS A CLONE,IT MAKES NO SENSE' and all that stupid thing

And that came from someone I know, who's Mexican! I never looked at them the same after that. I guess they forgot the part where Billy Dee was in the older movies.

Canonically the clones had accelerated ageing in order to grow a full army in the ten years between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, why would they still be alive much less in service 50 years later? Once the Empire ruled the galaxy and were able to conscript they had no need to create further clones.

It's a weird idea how people get hung up on races of the different human characters when one of the main heroes is a damned Sasquatch/wolfman. I'd think a lil melanin differences among the humans wouldn't be a big deal.
