27. Still can't believe Miz main evented a Mania. If Punk had main evented 27, it would be a case of "I can't believe Punk main evented that Mania." Even before the debacle of the New Nexus, he spent the best part of the previous year jobbing, and doing snarky commentary. Punk main evening Mania 27 would be like Barrett, Stardust, or Miz suddenly getting a rocket push out of nowhere and headlining in Dallas. Even if you could make an argument that Miz didn't deserve his spot at 27 (you'd be dead wrong), there were a ton of other guys who deserved it more than Punk.

Sorry, you're not going to convince me Miz deserved it. Everything about that run was awful. The Lawler feud, Cole as his biggest fan, his two star matches, acting like he wanted to rape Cena, etc. Worst main event heel at Mania of all time. And he won! Worst booking of all time too.

I'd be quite fascinated by the butterfly effect of Punk being part of the WM29 main event. Would it have kept his heart in it long enough for him to go out on better terms, or even still be going today? How does it affect the rise of others, like Bryan and the Shield guys? Does he still go public about his medical issues?

Punk was feuding with Cena leading into Mania 27, it wouldn't have been that bizarre based on the story they were telling at the time. There really wasn't any meat to CenaMiz match outside of what would the Rock do. In a way for Punk's sake, it was probably a good thing he wasn't involved in that whole thing, but he was easily on the short list of people who made sense for Cena to wrestle.

Headlining Mania was his last remaining goal so I think he would have been content hanging it up after that. I think his contract was supposed to go through around Summerslam? He might have been the one to win the title when Bryan got injured and drop it to Brock, which would have made Brock look like even more of a monster because then they could have played up him ending Punk's career on top of ending the streak.

MITB was when he re-signed so July was the end but I could see Heyman and Vince talking him into working Summerslam before leaving. Could also see them having Brock back a month early to win at MITB, then still squash Cena at Summerslam. Other than that it I think you're spot on.

I don't have to convince you, nor am I trying to. His reign wasn't anything to write home about, and the booking was awful, but over the course of the whole previous year he was by far and away the hottest heel in the company.

Cena vs. Punk from February 2013 should have mainevented Wrestlemania 29. We did not need a Rock/Cena rematch and a Rock title reign.

I'd say 29, it should have been Rock vs Cena vs Punk.
Punk should have won at Royal Rumble thanks to Shield, Rock vows vengeance, and it culminates at 29. In order to make sure Punk can't get a sneaky win, it's made an elimination match. It starts out with all 3 fighting, less than 10 minutes into the match Punk does a taunt to the crowd that he's smart, and when he turns around Cena and Rock are just looking at him, they kick his ass for a couple of minutes, and Cena hits Punk with the AA and pins him. Right there it becomes Cena vs Rock after, Cena gets his win over Punk, and Punk gets his comeuppance with Cena and Rock kicking his ass.

Out of those listed? 29. Wrestlemania 27, he just doesn't have a lot of heat due to the New Nexus being a stinker. Wrestlemania 28, no way on earth Cena/Rock didn't headline. Rightfully so. Wrestlemania 29 featured a Rock/Cena match that had been done the previous year and really didn't have a lot of excitement surrounding it. Punk may not have done anything for business but he certainly would have made it a better match if it was a 3 way since this match ended up being rotten. You could have also just done Cena/Punk with Cena finally getting the major singles win over Punk there and have Rock face Brock as someone else suggested. Yep. Cena/Punk, Rock/Brock. It was so simple but they refused to do it because of ego (Cena and HHH needed their wins back, by gawd).

I love the entitlement generation.
At what point along here had Punk announced at Comic-Con that he wasn't going to be wrestling for another five years or less? He basically, in doing so, said, "Don't put me on the big stage because I won't be around for the payoff."

Anyone that said 28 is being ridiculous.
If he went on after Cena/Rock he would've gotten the Mania 18 and 25 treatment.

It was in the perfect slot that year.

I think the way this question is being approached is somewhat flawed because we're looking at fitting him into the cards as they were, rather than suggesting that perhaps WWE should've booked something different from the ground up.
I think there's no reason they couldn't have rode the Summer of Punk angle all the way to Mania, had they wanted to. It was undeniably the hottest angle that year.
They screwed themselves by locking down Twice in a Lifetime so early. Punk/Cena deserved to main event a WrestleMania and Cena beating Punk probably would've done more for the guy than checking off his perfunctory win back in a poor match where the result was apparent the second it was made.

I'm going to go one step further and say Cena should have beat the Rock clean at Wrestlemania 28. Wrestlemania 29 should have been a one-on-one match between Cena and Punk. The writing was on the wall with that feud, with Punk having a chip on his shoulder because Cena was still "the guy" despite not being champ. It would've added more fuel that his resentment was over Cena being the one victorious closing out the previous year's Wrestlemania. Out of those listed? 29. Wrestlemania 27, he just doesn't have a lot of heat due to the New Nexus being a stinker. Wrestlemania 28, no way on earth Cena/Rock didn't headline. Rightfully so. It was so simple but they refused to do it because of ego (Cena and HHH needed their wins back, by gawd). Yep the rematch was entirely about Cena's ego getting stroked and not about Wrestlemania 28 being their highest grossing PPV ever, so they wanted to milk it more.

Rock/Brock would have been a much bigger match, and an easier sell to casual fans due to Rock and Lesnar's notoriety outside of the WWE. I'm not sure that's even debatable.

I'm going based on the matches he was booked in.
As a result: None
Fantasy booking would have the Summer of Punk booked into Mania 28 depending on his ppopularity. If he was moving more merch and getting more people watching than Cena, I would readjust the plans they eventually went with.
