I've heard really great things about Planescape: Torment if you don't mind older games, with its characters and story being its strong suit. Haven't played it myself yet though. www.gog.com/game/planescape_tormentExcellent suggestion. It's also worth looking at these games: Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption I tried liking that game... but it really isn't very good. Bloodlines is a much better game though it's more of a shooter than an RPG.

If you do get Undertale I recommend that you go into it as blind as possible. It will make your experience with the game that much more satisfying.

Bloodlines is a much better game though it's more of a shooter than an RPG. Why do you say that? Give reasons. I think the game is great. It plays like Diablo, except that it has 3D graphics, a fully adjustable camera, and a very engrossing story. For those reasons, I think it's better than Diablo, and Diablo was a critically acclaimed game.

Did they ever update KOTOR1 to work better on more modern OS's and Steam Workshop support for mods like they did with KOTOR2? Anyway, KOTOR2 is fantastic, especially with the updates and being able to get the Restoration Content mod right off the workshop. I will always contend that KOTOR2 is a far better written game to the original although that might be because I think that Bioware kinda has a better reputation as storytellers than they have earned in comparision to Obsidian. Like I would classify Kreia as one of the greatest characters in western RPG history because she is a deep and multifaceted character.

By this point, Diablo II dropped two weeks after Redemption came out and had far better gameplay.

Some good suggestions, cheers. Given Undertale a download and so far it's awesome. Planescape Torment is one I played years ago and loved but tried downloading it last year and it just wouldn't run on my computer unfortunately. I believe the Total War games are on sale on steam right now. There's a bunch of them with different eras from the Roman period to the 18th Century. You get to control thousands of soldiers. Giving Napoleon Total War a try. Looks a solid game and always found Napoleon fascinating so it's the one that appeals to me most. Definitely going to give this thread a bookmark though, some other games mentioned that I'm going to check out. Cheers

But I will admit that I haven't played it in forever and maybe my opinion changed but... I was not at all a fan of Redemption at the time and I was a major VTM player.

In no way can you compare VTM:Redemption to something like Diablo. It's about as similar to it as Baldurs Gate is.

I hate the entire "Isn't nihilism cool? Even when you do good things, everything still sucks, and nothing can ever change that" aesthetic of KOTOR2. It's a problem I have with Chris Avellone's whole body of work. He just seems like such a negative prick, to take his creative output into account.

Both V:TM-R and Diablo are 'hack-and-slash' action-based RPGs. The games feel very similar to me. Even the UI is identical between games. I haven't played Baldur's Gate, but from screenshots, it looks a hell of a lot like Diablo.

Also while it's more roleplaying shooter/action RPG, give Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines a go. Especially with the unofficial patch installed. I have the Xbox KOTOR2 but if I got the PC version from steam can I add the restored content mod? I love KOTOR2 but I always get annoyed at its unfinishedness

What's the finished KOTOR like?
Are the additions official mods, like did Bioware release mods that made the game's ending complete or is it fan-made stuff that just ties the pieces together and finishes everything off?

Jagged Alliance 2 and Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business are two older but great games, IMO. Combines both strategic and RPG elements. Both, along with lots of other great games, can be found out Good Old Games.
