Watching in Canada right now, and "The King" patronizes Mauro Ranallo the entire show. Not like a heel, but like a prick.
Mauro was doing a good job, but the entire broadcast, every time he would do something a little different, the King would literally just talk over him. He talked over Byron and Mauro countless times.
In no professional broadcast will you ever hear the color commentator talk over the guy the play-by-play guy. Unless you are Jerry Lawler.
-He called him "MR:
-When he introduced him, he did not pronounce his name properly
-Regularly talked over him (and Byron)
-Mauro praised Becky for her experience outside of the WWE, King said 'what you do outside of the WWE does not matter. He then went on to talk about his experience wrestling Flair outside the WWE
-He also interrupted in match play-by-play numerous times. To people not familiar with how broadcasting is produced, this is the biggest "no-no" in broadcasting. You don't interrupt a call. This is like Cris Collinsworth telling Al Michael's he's wrong mid play call. He was not commenting on what was happening, he was talking over Mauro trying to correct him.
It REALLY seemed he was trying to make him look bad.

One could tell Bas that he might not be articulate enough to call fights anymore and that making sound effects with his mouth isn't serious analysis of a fight but Bas probably kills a bunch of people by walking his dog. It's tough to tell him "no". |

He and Cole did the exact same thing to Matt Striker. Hate him if you want, but they bullied the shit out of him when he tried to do ANYTHING different.

I haven't heard Smackdown's commentary yet, being that I'm an American badass and all, but I will just say King is entertaining and also a legend in this business (this is a shoot), and I look forward to this new guy who apparently has done a bunch of stuff.
Don't hate the player, hate the game. And I don't mean Triple H, this isn't that much of a shoot.

also what is WWE's obsession with 3 person announce team. i dont think a 3 person announce team has ever been good in any sport. if im overlooking something then it's really rare that a 3 person team has been good

I hate when they do his kind of thing where they bring in someone really talented and then make it impossible for them to succeed. "Oh Mauro, you're a great commentator. In exciting news, the commentary booth is underwater now."

I knew this would happen. I called it in the thread when the news broke about bringing him in. It's like Lawler is trying to sabotage him to keep his job, even though he should've retired after the heart attack. The got rid of Fink for Lillian 15 years ago but they'll keep this corny old pedo until he dies on air.
