This thread = everything I've been posting about him since his New Japan broadcasts ...
*copies and pastes from New Japan threads**
This guy can absolutely make a match in the way Ross and Solie and the gang used to put workers over huge. Even if they were streaming piles of garbage, those guys and Ranallo can put a shine on it.

I only watched Ambrose vs. Owens but man...the difference good commentary makes. The only nitpick that stuck out to me was when they fought to a count out, took the brawl up to the stage and Mauro said "this is how much the Intercontinental Title means to them," which struck me as odd because if the title meant that much to them they would have tried to make sure the match ended with a winner, though I guess you can say it matters so much to them that their rivalry for it has gotten personal, but that's a pretty subjective thought. I don't come away from a finish like that thinking these are two guys who really care about the title because they stupidly threw the match out. But Mauro was 100% engaged anyways, and really brought a sports-like vibe to the match.
I would be really curious to know what the behind the scenes thinking is with his hiring and the post-Smackdown opinions on whether they think they got what they bargained for, because that was so far removed from the usual WWE commentary of the last several years I just wonder what the vision was, and hope that they don't see fit to change it up. Though I don't really think Mauro would even let them change his style that much. I really wanna believe that this is the beginning of redefining on WWE's part of what commentary is supposed to sound like.

I said in the SD thread last night that he sounded like Cyrus in ECW when he worked with Joey. The voice commands attention.
That said, how soon before Mauro talks about intellectual intercourse?

The thing that I really loved was his commentary during the Divas match. Throughout the whole match, he talked about how this was a prestigious title match. He talked about how both women were amazing athletes. He was actually outraged that Charlotte had to resort to cheating. It was so refreshing to hear a Divas match actually called like a legitimate athletic contest instead of the backdrop for the season premiere of Total Divas.
I'm crossing my fingers that they don't mess with him too much and they just let him do his thing because he just elevates the entire show.

I wish I had USA so I could watch him on Smackdown. He sounds like a stand up guy.

He's a good commentator, but they need to ditch Byron. He kills all the enthusiasm on Smackdown. Lawler should be allowed to go back to his heel persona.

I have only seen a few little bits and pieces of his commentary from the matches on WWE's Youtube channel.
Somebody promote this guy to Monday Night Raw IMMEDIATELY, and demote those 2 doofuses and Byron Saxton. Bring in a good heel color commentator. Boom. Magic.

He's the guy that could commentate me making Hamburger Helper, and make it sound exciting. That's how good he is.

Mauro has always been awesome, made undercard mma fights in Pride sound like championship fights. Dude has a passion and it shows in all of his commentary from mma, boxing, and now wrestling

Dude has a passion and it shows in all of his commentary from mma, boxing, and now wrestling Boxing is his best work so I'm glad he's continuing with that, his post-PRIDE MMA stuff isn't great but a lot of that had to do with who he was working with. I've never been big on his pro wrestling stuff(sorry to piss on the parade, kids) but maybe I'll warm up to him in that regard.
