Would Chris Barrie count? I know he had Brittas Empire, but once that dried up, he made a few appearances in the Lara Croft movies and then I didn't see him again until Red Dwarf: Back to Earth.

Which shows were these - I can only think of 'Hyperdrive', which I never saw. I didn't watch Red Dwarf after series 8 - seven was horrible to watch with Chris Barrie only appearing in a handful of episodes, not to mention a long wait after the cliffhanger ending of series 6. The ones on Dave I've never seen - to me, it's just milking it. The Strangerers for Sky One, which lasted nine episodes (and was sci-fi), and Dark Ages (which actually wasn't - I got it mixed up with Hyperdrive for some reason), which lasted five episodes. For all the question marks over quality, Red Dwarf continued to be a ratings success in Series 7 and 8, and broke records for Dave, and probably would've stuck around on BBC2 had Doug Naylor not been so fixated on making a movie out of it. Fair play to Rob for wanting to do more than Red Dwarf, but in hindsight it clearly didn't work out for him. Thanks mate, and I agree - if they'd both been writing together back then things would have been so much different. The movie idea has been in limbo for some 20 years now, eh?

Yeah, and they actually ended up using bits from the movie in the finale of the most recent series They'd filmed some of the film? Interesting, I'd always thought it was an idea floating around and not much else. Chris Barrie did have a short lived sit-com called 'Prince Amongst Men' or something similar, about a retired footballer I think, in the late 90s/early 200s. It didn't set the world alight...

Would Chris Barrie count? I know he had Brittas Empire, but once that dried up, he made a few appearances in the Lara Croft movies and then I didn't see him again until Red Dwarf: Back to Earth. His reasons for quitting were more to do with being burned out by the stressful production during series 6 (which had scenes being rewritten as they were filming) and having no faith things would change for the better than anything else. He said on the series 7 DVD that if he'd known going into series 7 just how much less stressful production was from then on he'd have signed on for the full run of episodes. Yeah, and they actually ended up using bits from the movie in the finale of the most recent series They'd filmed some of the film? He also had a string of motoring/engineering programs on Discovery Channel, and was one of the team captains (the other being Richard Hammond) on the Top Gear quiz show spinoff Petrolheads. I still say he should've been one of the post-Clarkson, Hammond, and May hosts.

To complete the M*A*S*H trifecta, how about McLean Stevenson? I can only remember him doing Hello Larry (yeah...) and game shows, and he was a great GS panelist and one of the people who stopped the bleeding in Richard Dawson's vacated seat on Match Game. But still...

This is UK specific, but BBC Breakfast presenter Susannah Reid leaving for rival channel ITV's new morning show Good Morning Britain (itself a rehash of a title from the 1980s). She was getting a lot of media attention for how she looked, and seemed to me to believe her own hype; when she accepted the offer from ITV she was removed instantly from BBC Breakfast before reappearing on ITV as 'the face' of Good Morning Britain. Unfortunately, nobody seems to watch Good Morning Britain as it receives a regular beating in the ratings from the BBC. The whole set-up seems sterile, fake and lacking serious chemistry with the four presenters. It's got so bad that Piers Morgan has been brought in to boost ratings...but I digress. Susannah Reid is earning a decent wage, don't get me wrong - but her profile isn't as big as it could have been. The grass isn't always greener, right? I would say the bigger examples are Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley, the two hosts had earned themselves a reputation as likeable and approachable presenters as part of BBC One's The One Show, with Bleakley in particular becoming something of a tabloid favourite, before the two moved to ITV in a multi-million pound deal to front the channels new breakfast show daybreak. Despite a large amount of hype surrounding the new show Daybreak was a massive failure, being consistently retooled multiple times and the duo being axed as presenters after only a few months. Bleakley failed to get a major presenting role since the failure, whilst Chiles became a figure of ridicule as the face of ITV's football coverage. Meanwhile the One Show hires Matt Baker and Alex Jones as presenters, and becomes an even bigger hit for the BBC. on a similar note we can say Natasha Kaplinsky's ill fated move to Channel 5

Yeah I wouldn't agree with this one he's had a pretty solid career outside of Doctor Who including being in a Marvel movie.

I didn't enjoy everything about series 10, but that episode was the only one I would consider downright bad. If that was any indication of what the movie would've been like I'd have hated it more than I do series 8.

She ended up coming back.
But Laura Prepon leaving Orange Is The New Black for umm reasons that were never made clear.. She finally catches break post That 70s Show by landing on a poplulor show, but then decides to leave after a season. Forcing the writers to write of her character and making her look like the absolute snitch doing so. But then she came crawling back.
The rumor was that a certain group she belongs to (won't name) encouraged her to demand a lot more of that sweet Netflix money.
