Chevy Chase left Saturday Night Live for what he thought would be a huge movie career. Didn't turn out as he planned.
Jessica Biel got herself written off Seventh Heaven but ended up looking like a troublemaker that didn't work well with others.

Olivia Wilde is a minor one. Hasn't done much since she left House to show up in Tron

David Garrison quitting Married with Children. Granted, he has said that live theater was always his true love. Do what you love, after all. I think that worked out for the best though. I think Jefferson was a much better character than Steve.

Compare Katherine Heigl, who did great for a few movies, before fizzling down into Yikes territory for the last 6 years.

Paul Schneider bailing on Parks and Recreation. I'm not sure what the story was behind his exit, but he left right when the show got good.

Craig Kilborn, anyone? Left The Daily Show for the Late, Late Show and the Daily Show becomes a phenomenon, leaves the Late, Late Show and his career has never recovered. Good. After what he said about Owen Hart...

I can understand why she'd want to get away from 7th Heaven (especially knowing what we know now about Stephen Collins), but she didn't exactly set the world on fire. Most of the films she did was generic stuff like Stealth. She hasn't had any mainstream hits.

Gemma Atkinson leaving Hollyoaks, she thought she was going to be a model and get into Hollywood. Boneheaded at the time yes but she's bounced back well as doing I'm A Celeb led to a role in Casualty which in turn has led to her current role in Emmerdale

Paul Schneider bailing on Parks and Recreation. I'm not sure what the story was behind his exit, but he left right when the show got good. We're a few years behind in the UK (we've just finished series 4), but his character Mark never sat well with me; he didn't have a gimmick as such, didn't have much personality and just seemed to be 'there'. Nothing against him as an actor, but he fact that the show got better without him and his presence wasn't missed says quite a lot, I think.

George Dzundza leaving the original Law & Order. Had he stuck around, he probably would've been used in the same basic role that Jerry Orbach was and would've had a starring role on a major TV series for a decade or more.

Paul Schneider bailing on Parks and Recreation. I'm not sure what the story was behind his exit, but he left right when the show got good. screencrush.com/paul-schneider-interview/I always liked the Mark Brendanawicz character as I felt he was kind of the straight man surrounded by lunacy and idiocy but he was very much expendable, as seen by the fact that the show plugged right along in seasons 3 and 4 as if nothing were amiss despite the departure of one of the first two seasons' most important characters. Although the way he was completely erased from the history of Pawnee or any of the other central characters in "Parks and Recreation" makes me wonder if he left on rather unpleasant terms or if the creators were rather acrimonious to him on his way out the door. Because when Ann was desperately seeking a man or when she was going through her dating history, she - nor anyone else - even made a passing mention of Mark, despite them dating for basically all of season 2.

Chase was one of the biggest stars around for the 10 years following SNL.

Yeah, Jessica Biel is easily the most successful person to come out of the main cast of that show. The next closest is David Gallagher and it's not even that close. Stephen Collins was already pretty successful before 7th Heaven, but then he's not going to be working again anytime soon on the account of being a pedophile.

Craig Kilborn, anyone? Left The Daily Show for the Late, Late Show and the Daily Show becomes a phenomenon, leaves the Late, Late Show and his career has never recovered. Craig Kilborn's Daily Show was a very different beast from what it was under Jon Stewart. It was much more like a typical late night show in a half-hour format. It was funny and it did try to parody a news show, but you didn't have the same biting satire that Stewart brought in. The Daily Show became a phenomenon under Jon Stewart because he and his writers made it such. If The Daily Show stayed Craig's, it would've never became what it did under Jon.

I think Jefferson was a much better character than Steve. Over the past 7 weeks I watched every episode of Married with Children. And while Jefferson was good. Once Steve left the show felt like it was missing the one person that helped ground the show somewhat in reality. There is so many way over the top episodes of the show once he left. Like the one were we find out Al has a secret tunnel in the basement to the Jiggly Room. Or all the episodes where Jefferson turns out to be some kind of Black Ops agent. The show was still good, well until that kind of horrible season 11,but was missing something once Steve left.

She also had a kid, which explains the slow down in work. For comparison, I can't name anyone else from that show.

Yeah I wouldn't agree with this one he's had a pretty solid career outside of Doctor Who including being in a Marvel movie. Eccelston is still a big deal to Brits. Not quite the powerhouse Tennant is worldwide, but he's carved a decent niche for himself. The Leftovers in-general is an amazing show, but Christopher Eccleston absolutely crushes it every time he's on screen. The episodes that focus on Reverend Matt are some of the best.

Chevy Chase left Saturday Night Live for what he thought would be a huge movie career. Didn't turn out as he planned. Chase had an absolutely huge movie career and was still banking around $7 million per movie a decade after leaving SNL before his bubble finally burst.
