He's not very good. Like all has going for him is that the gimmick incidentally makes him look different from everyone else (the "at least he's not a generic dude in tights" effect) but at the same time it feels like it's a crutch for lacking any natural charisma.

I like the gimmick and his music, and I love how much Corey Graves hates him. That's pretty much it.

His matches bore me to be honest. He has a very generic old-school move set. I keep wondering how and why he managed to get management to hype up the debut of this gimmick

I'm still pissed that they sent him to Bronycon, but they didn't send him to Anthrocon.

Sampson has a cool look, cool music, and a unique character, but the same character lacks purpose or direction. Like, why is this drifter/loner guy wrestling? What's his beef? I mean, if he wants to strum a guitar, he doesn't need to be a wrestler. They need to tie those aspects of the character together.

Graves has speculated on commentary that the guy is essentially a poser. Now, whether or not, that is Graves developing Sampson's character or heelishly ad-libbing, remains to be seen.

He seems like it has talent, he has cool music and he has a great look. The only thing is that the Drifter gimmick is clearly not working at all

I really want to like him and I do like his ring work, but I think he comes off a bit too manic and he doesn't really have much grit to him for the character he's portraying. Like if Bray Wyatt could play a guitar I could buy him as a guy who has stories for years about shit he's seen on the road and the weird people whose cars he rode in. He never feels like he isn't just a guy playing a character but maybe when they peel a few more layers it'll make more sense. I have a feeling they're gonna abandon the gimmick entirely before long. I remember I think it was his first match in where he beat a guy and then started playing the acoustic guitar underneath his theme music and it just looked so cheesy and bad.

Yeah, he's too "intense", needs to have a more laid back vibe in the ring to go with his character.
