So act like a heel, fight faces, and yet hes a face? Ok. No, he just doesn't pander to the whole fan base when some of the fans don't like him, act like a dick to those who boo him (you know, because people would bitch if he copied the Cena route of going "Awww you're all awesome with your reactions" type of pandering), and will fight both faces and heels. Not really hard to figure out. The problem is it tends to be more than "Some fans" don't like him. |

It's perfect because then you can set him up for a turn as a down-on-his-luck face when they reveal that he calls it his house because he's been sleeping in the ring since his wife left him and took everything.

So he's not going to be like Cena. He's going to be a face who they can book as the heel sometimes when it's convenient, and he'll do a few things to play into that role in matches despite not turning heel.
That is exactly like Cena.

I don't like him now. If being a douchebag is "being himself" I really don't see me changing my tune. Here's hoping. There have been times in Pro Wrestling where that kind of cocky asshole would get over as a major face. For better or worse 2016 is not one of those times. These days, being the guy who would bully geeks and dorks in high school isn't as cool when more people embrace being geeks and dorks. |

While I like the idea of what this could be, it's still ignoring the problems with Reigns as a top guy. The problem isn't that Reigns is a face, it's that he's a terrible face with no character. Having him swear, mouth things to fans, and all that isn't character; it's a cheap ploy to make people think Reigns is something interesting when he isn't. This is Vince not understanding why there's such a clamoring for Reigns to turn heel; being the bad guy itself isn't the solution, it's the chance for Reigns to gain some kind of character because despite this weird "reality" aspect that they keep trying to present, character still matters in wrestling.

I'm with the idea of "let him be more of himself' as the "doesn't say much, just kicks your ass" guy was what got him over in The Shield, but..."people on facebook who aren't fans like him" but "don't go by a few internet marks who go to PPV's and Raw's" is...that seems like shooting yourself in the ass. Don't react tot he paying customers, they're not the ones that pay to...shit, I mean, react to the guys on the internet who don't really watch but they like you. It just seems self-defeating if the purpose is to draw money with him as a babyface. You want to go Austin mold, cool, ti can work, but then Austin would go at anyone at any time, same with Rock. They were cocky, they could almost be seen as heelish faces, but they were consistent in their delivery. Reigns CAN be that, but they have to present him that way. If they present him as "aw shucks, he's a great guy, it's those fans who are assholes" (as they have been presenting him) then it's not going to get any better. |
