People laugh at how the WWE turned into a roster of bland CAWs by the late-2000s, but the Natural Born Thrillers eclipsed that by about 10 years.

Goldberg was so frickin over, even at the end of the company. Watching the night after Mayhem 2000 (mainly because, as another poster pointed out, it has the infamous Sad Sackass fruit booty promo), and when Flair announces he has an opponent for Steiner at Starrcade, the crowd chants Goldberg. This was the biggest show of the year, how do you not have Goldberg going for the title against Steiner. Title vs Career.
Forget about fingerpokes, nwoverkill, etc, the dumbest decision by WCW and, to me, the reason why they went under was because of not making Goldberg the companies main focus. It should've been the Goldberg show.
Also, forget a bunch of Russo's booking, like pole matches and David Arquette, he was just trying to see if something would stick and grab attention. The dumbest booking decision was turning Goldberg heel. That was the final nail in the coffin.
