Throw Sheamus, Del Rio, Owens and Zayn on the World team, they'll walk/brawl off letting the US have an easy victory and setting up matches for later in the night. US gets the rah-rah win, no one looks bad and we all forget by Wednesday. I could see Owens costing Zayn the match have Zayn pinned by say Rollins or Styles so giving USA the win but with the heel doing it.

Yep, this thread has gone exactly as I thought it would. People here act like WWE is the only wrestling company that celebrate patriotism and have nationalistic tendencies. I just got through watching CMLL vs the World yesterday in the same concept that WWE is doing on Raw. Right down to it being 8 vs 8. Wouldn't be shocked the match lasts almost a hour like CMLL's did. AAA did a World Cup early last month with the Mexican teams getting loudest cheers and support. Like it or not (And going by this thread, a lot don't), WWE is based in the United States so things are going to be slated that way. WWE should not be saying the rest can kiss the USA's ass but they also should not have be apologize or be ashamed of being American. I watched CMLL and AAA Us vs Them shows and never thought they should tone it down because the international viewers might be offended. By now, you know if Raw or Smackdown falls on a US holiday; it's getting a theme. When Raw was in the UK for their Memorial Day, they recognized even though non UK viewers probably did not care or knew that had a day like that. Instead of doing a paint by numbers show during a holiday that people tend to be not watching tv, they trying something WWE haven't used since the Canadian Stampede ppv from the Attitude Era. Remember how heated and loud that crowd was for The Hart Foundation beating the Americans? Same thing.

Y'all do remember Edge and Hulk Hogan won the Tag titles from those nasty, sneaky La Resistance guys on a July 4th SmackDown, right?

Hmmmm I do wonder who will win (sarcasm) Rusev's already announced for a match and the Shining Stars are American (though could see that not stopping them). Also really doubt they care if someone's a citizen or not for this. I forgot all about Sami, Owens, and Breeze. Kalisto is also from Chicago But he's billed from Mexico city

I'm honestly stunned at all the negativity towards something so innocuous, something that will have no bearing on the product after Monday. Goofy stuff like this is par for the course in pro wrestling, it's not that deep. A patriotism-oriented match on a July 4th Raw is both predictable and harmless. The worst thing that happens is that the American team squashes everyone and we get lots of 'Murica f*** Yeah commentary. The most likely thing is that we get a long tag match with a hot crowd that ends up being pretty good. If I was watching a UK or Japan or Canada based company putting on a show that falls on a patriotic holiday in their country, I wouldn't be alienated by a similar scenario. My reaction would probably be "haha, that's cute." 1. WWE doesn't do things subtle when it comes to this. They go heavy-handed and over the head with a club, and usually catastrophically offensive (see: JBL in Germany, the Finlay/Miz situation, the Jericho flag deal, etc) 2. WWE is trying to go global. The above is the exact reason it will backfire. They're going to find some way to piss off potential customer bases. JBL in Germany and Jericho in Brazil were in the moment choices by old school heels trying to be heels, in dumb ways. Those weren't things WWE told them to do. Those situations were also on house shows, which ups the unpredictability factor. Talents don't have that kind of freedom on TV, and they're not going to have a foreign crowd to antagonize. You really think it's going to be more than just a match where the US side is babyfaces? I'd be more surprised if that wasn't the case. They might have the heels be all "stupid Americans" or something, and the US guys say "love it or leave it yerrrgh!" WWE's not into ruffling feathers anymore, I can't see this getting out of control in the least.

They kinda tipped off who's winning this, didn't they?
That's one thing I can't stand about WWE. It's an awesome idea to see them do, but because they're doing it on the 4th...

I'm just curious how long this match is going to be. That's a good chunk of the roster. But then again, in that format, I don't see why some of them can't work other matches. I do think this match is either going to be awesome or a complete clusterf***. Just to actually be a good match and not a complete mess, it's going to have be over 30 minutes.

Too many people on this board throw a fit every time the WWE reaches out to a segment of the audience that isn't them. Between the US nationalism (by a company entirely based in the US), the cultural references, and everything else, there's far too much complaining.

As long as it isn't trying to exploit an actual war going on at the moment. It's harmless.
If there's one day and place to be patriotic. It's at a wrestling show on the 4th of july.

I'm calling it now: At some point in the 24 hours after Raw airs, WWE PR will release a statement of some sort apologizing to their viewers across the globe for something or another that happens on the show. If WWE ever plans to truly go global like they're currently attempting, they *have* to ditch this sort of thing and mentality. That, and starting big PPVs with Star Spangled Banner or America the Beautiful and then harping on about how "international" they are. And when't the last time anywhere outside North America had an actual PPV?

I like the idea but I'm selfish and hope they announce the participants ahead of time, so I can get my facts organized before the match. Also, I hope they don't have anyone doing double duty because that's just more work for me. I guess Excellence can agree with me. Since it's going to be an elimination match, it should take most of the 3rd hour, so hopefully they can pad the show out with O'Neil VS Rusev, Ambrose VS Miz, and a few women's matches or promos, that it's not needed to have guys wrestle twice.
