Great overall round, especially considering its abstract nature. Here's what I had for rankings:

I expected to get hammered for going forehead-slap obvious with the song and the accompanying picture, so I'll gladly accept sixth.

I expected to get hammered for going forehead-slap obvious with the song and the accompanying picture, so I'll gladly accept sixth. My thought process on the image: So, that piece is by Vincent Van Gogh. Originally, I wanted to pick a painting by an artist named Gustave Caillebotte, but the painting I had in mind was a city scene and I already had a photo for that. I thought about the Moulin Rouge and something by Toulouse-Latrec, but I decided that was too specific. So, the dance hall painting, in my mind, could have led people to pick a dance song, a celebratory song, a traditional dance hall song, a drinking song, or any number of party songs. In the end, it worked out imo.

So, I feel as if I should explain my inspiration for the round. The picture that my attention was the statue, because in my mind it looks very lifelike. Now, for those of you with HBO, the statue looked to me as the way they create the hosts on Westworld.
Now, I had just watched the premier and there was an awesome gunfight scene and playing underneath it was this version of Paint It Black and everything just kinda fir. Add in the obvious are reference and I thought it was a winner.
I was wrong.
Now with the new round I'm going to do something I've rarely, if ever done before. I'm using an artist who was uses in one of the eleven previous competitions.
EDIT: I lied! The streak remains intact.

1. I felt that the self-portrait was like the artist looking into a mirror, and almost instantly "The Mirror Maze" came into my head.
2. I really wanted an excuse to use Ayreon at some point.
For the next round, I went WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY off the beaten path. I fully expect to get the worst score but I want to chance maybe being wrong.

With my tastes that can go off the beaten path too, you'll probably get 7th from me.

Here are my rankings and comments:
1. Liechtenstein - Strange Ideas 2. Freelance Whales - Hannah 3. Ramshackle Glory - From Here to Utopia 4. Massive Attack - Angel 5. Ayreon - The Mirror Maze 6. Conkarah and Rosie Delma - Hello (Reggae Cover) 7. D12 - Fight Music 8. Audioslave - Be Yourself 9. Vitamin String Quartet - Paint it Black 10. Julien Baker - Go Home 11. Dirty Projectors - Dance For You
Audioslave - Be Yourself
A song that has its moments but is for the most part rather unremarkable, not helped by the fact that I don't think the singer quite pulls off the vocals the song needs. Not bad but not great either.
Ayreon - The Mirror Maze
Well... someone's trying very hard to be Pink Floyd. They don't too bad a job of it either although they don't reach their model's standards. The thing is, individual parts of the song are great but they don't fit together very well, creating an indoherent whole. It gets better as it reaches the more metal part and is overall good and very interesting but I feel like it could have been better.
Conkarah and Rosie Delma - Hello (Reggae Cover)
Don't think we've had much reggae in this contest or indeed in this game's history before so it's a nice change of pace even if it's a cover. However, it's not a particularly creative entry (and indeed, I don't remember the original song being veryc reative either). It's pleasant but the genre has better to offer.
D12 - Fight Music
Once again, something that isn't bad but just doesn't stand out. This is supposed to be a group effort and yet it sounds very much like any other Eminem song. So yeah, it's still good because Eminem is good but it doesn't do anything special.
Dirty Projectors - Dance For You
It started out sounding interesting but it is just far too repetitive for my tastes and doesn't ever vary from the main theme. I kept waiting for the song to really get into gears and it never happened.
Freelance Whales - Hannah
This one is really weird... I like it! It's hard to even explain why but there is something a bit trippy about it that I really like, especially since at the same time, it's quite energetic.
Julien Baker - Go Home
This woman has a beautiful, gorgeous voice... but man I feel like I've heard this sort of songs on the radio all my life.I really need something more inventive than this to excite me.
Liechtenstein - Strange Ideas
Very very nice! I like the 60's throwback style, especially since it doesn't just ape famous bands from that time and actually does its own thing. It reminds me a bit of the Black Belles. So yeah, it really works for me.
Massive Attack - Angel
I have heard surprising little Massive Attack but I usually like their stuff a lot and this is no exception... but I ONLY like it. This is another one that feels like it could be better than it is. It would probably make a great soundtrack for a film but it's only an okay song.
Ramshackle Glory - From Here to Utopia
This one does have originality and while I'm not super fond of the singer's voice, I think it actually kind of works with the music and I really like this Gypsy-influenced music.
Vitamin String Quartet - Paint it Black
Always a risky bet to go for a cover of such a classic song and unfortunately I think you bet on the wrong horse. It's actually not a bad arrangement but it's impossible not to think of the original and be immensely frustrated by this cover's refusal to match its strength and intensity, which was the whole point of the song.

That could have gone worse i guess? I'm in a decent enough spot and at least I seem to have split the judges.
Massive Attack should have done better though. It's also good to see Dirty Projectors better than that one time I picked them many...many...many seasons ago.

Rankings sent. That was a very, very strong round. I had a hard time determining an order for all the right reasons. Good work, everyone.
