Rankings sent. I was very surprised by the song selection, but not disappointed. My goal with this theme was to push people to submit entries they normally wouldn't and to think a bit outside the box so I was expecting unusual picks for this theme and that's what I got.

My rankings and comments: 1. Accept - Stampede 2. Miss Li - My Heart Goes Boom 3. Wu Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck 4. Alt-J - Every Other Freckle 5. The Shins - A Comet Appears 6. Saint Motel - Getaway 7. Ben Folds Five - Boxing 8. Lloyd Cole And The Commotions - Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken 9. Pendulum - Propane Nightmares 10. Danielle Bradbury - Human Accept - Stampede Aw yeah! That's my jam! Some nice (by which I mean "nasty"), powerful, satisfying metal with an awesome build up. The kind of stuff that gets your blood pumping and makes it physically impossible not to headbang. That is an incredibly strong opening to the round and a song that's going to be very hard to top. Alt-J - Every Other Freckle Talk about tonal whiplash. And you know what? This one ain't half-bad either! It doesn't really sound like anything else I can think of (the closest thing would be Moby but even then it's onely vaguely similar). Its weirdness makes it a risky choice but it really pays off in my book. Ben Folds Five - Boxing I'm not sure what to make of this because weirdly, there is something about it I like and something about it that rubs me the wrong way and yet I cannot really put my finger on what makesme feel either of those thing. I guess the best way I could put it is that it's fairly creative but lacks control. Danielle Bradbery - Human Another case of a song being very pretty and very academically well performed but compared to how bursting with creativity the other picks have been so far, this just isn't a strong enough choice. Lloyd Cole And The Commotions - Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken Hm. I can tell this guy is trying but something about it feels artificial, like he's trying to imitate other artists with a style he likes but doesn't quite get it and doesn't really manage to transform it into his own thing. Miss Li - My Heart Goes Boom We've heard a lot of retro songs by modern artists in this contest so you'd think it might get old, but what I love about this one is that it doesn't just blindly emulate an old style, it takes it as inspiration and creates something completely new with it, which is exactly how to do retro right to me. And it sounds awesome! Saint Motel - Getaway That's a very interesting choice because it feels like soundtrack, which I usually say as a rather bad thing, meaning it's overly repetitive, but in this case, I mean it in a good way because not only is it just a straight-up good song to begin with, it's catchy and it's something you don't mind hearing over and over. I could hear that in the menu of a video game or something and never get tired of it. The Shins - A Comet Appears I really like a song like that because I wasn't with it at first but it won me over as I kept listening. It's very relaxing but also inspiring. Wu Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck Classic 90's rap in the best of ways. Listening to this, it's no wonder that Wu Tang became so influencial. This track has a dirty, industrial feel to it that really works and makes it hit hard. Damn, my song didn't even get a review. I must've really shit the bed.

Everyone, I need your attention.
The current Host of this season will not be returning to the game. I will confer with the other judges, but we will have to take up the mantle of host for the remainder of this game.
I'll need all remaining players to pm me which song they have chosen for this round. The judges will share with each other what their rankings are for this round and we'll go from there. The elimination sing-off will play out as scheduled, and we'll announce the next Round soon.
Thank you for your patience. We'll finish this season and let's try to have as much fun as we can, ok?

Really sucks to see CageKing go. Always liked him and I thought you could always count on him to liven up the forums. But here's hoping the rest of the game stays at least as fun as it has been so far. Damn, my song didn't even get a review. I must've really shit the bed. Dammit, sorry, I didn't realize I missed that one when copy-pasting my notes (it was the last song reviewed). Here's what I wrote: Pendulum - Propane Nightmares It's certainly energetic, it has its good moments and it's catchy but I feel it's inconsistent. It doesn't hold up for the entirety of the song and seems to lose its breath a few times.

Hey everyone. If you haven't done so already, please pm me the song that you have chosen for the Round.
All the judges have sent in their rankings, so we can move on today. We'll have our double elimination Sing-off afterwards.
We'll announce the next round today as well. Please bear with us, as we need to discuss a few things before doing so.
Thank you!

Wait, for the catharsis round? That's correct. Yeah. I have the scores but not who sent in what. I have all but two of who picked what. I get one more and we can move on tonight. Again, thank you for your patience.

Mine:
1. Gary Clark Jr. - When My Train Pulls In 2. Titus Andronicus - Dimed Out 3. Air - Cherry Blossom Girl 4. Dillinger Escape Plan - Mouth Of Ghosts 5. Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart 6. Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye 7. Bright Eyes - Road To Joy 8. Joe Esposito - You're The Best Around 9. Gigi D'Agostino - I'll Fly With You 1999 10. Sea Span - Winter Sublet
Air - Cherry Blossom Girl
Very interesting choice. I really like the way ot sounds despite the awkwardly obvious French accent of the singers. It's definitely very relaxing and I can't exactly point my finger on what but there's something about it I really like.
Bright Eyes - Road To Joy
There is a lot of personality in this song and the singer is one of the few who I think actually pulls off the shaky voice. You can really feel the narrator's uncertainty and frustration so I can see why the player chose this title, but I also think that is an uneven song, which could have actually helped its theme but what I mean is that the crescendo comes a bit too late and too suddenly for my taste. A good song that could be better.
Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart
It's a bit of a shame because early on, while the song was rather repetitive, I didn't mind as I thought it made for a very good ambiance song, the perfect kind of stuff to play while working as it relaxes you without making you sleepy, but once the lyrics started, I kind of went "aw, I was getting into that!" especially since it then became a rather generic song. Not a bad one, mind you, but one that doesn't reach the standards set by the first half.
Dillinger Escape Plan - Mouth Of Ghosts
This song ends very differently from how it starts. The beginning has a very strong Pink Floyd vibe and by the end, it's almost turned to Death Metal. It suffers a bit from the same problem as "Road to Joy" where I feel like the progression isn't smooth enough and the changes are too abrupt, and I do feel like the song would have benefited from being slightly shorter, but overall I think it does what it does better than "Road to Joy".
Gary Clark Jr. - When My Train Pulls In
Amazing performance here! The song, despite its quiet tone, is very powerful both musically and lyrically and Clark Jr. and his band really manage to maintain the feel and quality of the song all the way through, which is no small task for an over 10 minutes long piece.
Gigi D'Agostino - I'll Fly With You 1999
Yeah, after what we've heard, this comes off as a bit too generic. It's not bad or anything but let's just say that even if the year wasn't in the title, I probably would have guessed that this is from 1999 because it very much sounds like every dance song from that era.
Joe Esposito - You're The Best Around
Now there's a classic I'm surprised has never been used before! It's funny, I would have thought of this more as a work out song than a cathartic one, but I suppose I can see why it was chosen. It's a very good, catchy and fun track, although again, in comparison to the other entries, it falls a bit short in my book.
Sea Span - Winter Sublet
This one didn't leave much of an impression on me. It sits at the same level through the entire song and the level isn't all that notable in any way. Sorry but I'm going to need something stronger than this to be impressed.
Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
Pretty good stuff. It's go an early-2000's feel that I really like, it manages to keep your attanetion despite being repetitive and the more energetic moments flow well with the rest of the song.
Titus Andronicus - Dimed Out
For such a recent song, it feels amazingly like old-school Punk and I mean that in the best of ways despite me not liking most of that genre. In my opinion, the Sex Pistols was a shit band that somehow influenced great bands and this song really shows it. The influence of 70's bands is all over it and it's in my opinion better than a lot of those.

Howdy ya'll! We're live at the legendary Bluebird Cafe right in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee! Singers, song-writers, and various honkytonk hanger-ons fill this cramped little dive every night in hopes of hearing the next Garth Brooks but tonight is a special evening. These fine folks are going to hear a little FAN Idol medley! Tonight, we have the totally tubular radradsley versus the unpredictable chaosxeffect versus the soulful Ya-kishi! It would appear we're missing a song unless we've just tossed Ya-Kishi out with the bathwater.

It would appear we're missing a song unless we've just tossed Ya-Kishi out with the bathwater. The third contestant was notified. We can use our imagination as to why he hasn't sent something in (as he himself hasn't signed into this forum since mid October). He gets something in in time, cool; if not, auto-elimination.

Ok, a new wrinkle to the sing-off: The third contestant has responded with a song. I will send the song to the judges and they'll judge between the three.
The judging hasn't finished and the contestant responded in time.

Three judge's decisions are in. The final judge will determine who moves on!
There will be a few changes in terms of judging and hosting that will be announced after the sing-off.
