These last medal ceremonies should be done at the closing ceremony. It looks ridiculous to have them in front of an empty stadium.

USA take gold in the relay. Jamaica silver. GB win bronze!!! GB pass the total medal count of London! Which I believe is the first time that a nation has gotten more medals in an Olympics following the one that they hosted (65 in 2012 compared to 66 here).

With bronzes in volleyball and the marathon plus gold medal matches coming up in boxing/wrestling/basketball, the US will finish with 121 medals.

With bronzes in volleyball and the marathon plus gold medal matches coming up in boxing/wrestling/basketball, the US will finish with 121 medals. Impressive? Sure, but after a while, you do feel kinda greedy, especially in cases like basketball. Men are one thing, where NBA superstars are half-assing it to gold (they are, the close matches and lack of defense show it), but the women haven't lost since the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. That kind of domination is impressive at first, but then after a while, you walk a line between guilt and apathy. Part of the reason it's nice to see the elation from GB and other countries that have either surprised or exceeded expectations. May be part of the reason why I enjoy watching the Winter Games as much as the Summer - the US doesn't dominate quite as much and other countries, especially in Europe, just kill it.

I will say this, it's nice to see Britain having continued success, especially 20 years after they only won one gold.
So what's up with China? I know Russia didn't operate at full strength, but what's China's excuse?

I will say this, it's nice to see Britain having continued success, especially 20 years after they only won one gold. So what's up with China? I know Russia didn't operate at full strength, but what's China's excuse? China swept all 5 Badminton Golds in 2012 (Mens/Womens Singles Mens/Women Doubles and Mixed Doubles) and won 8 of the 15 medals This time just 2 gold in mens singles/mens doubles and 3 of 15 medals The best womens doubles badminton player is from South Korea and the best womens singles player. Carolina Marin of Spain won the last 2 world championships in Badminton so it would have been a bit of an upset if Sindhu of India or any of the high ranked Malaysian, S. Korea or Chinese players beat her. Almost entire Dropoff in Medals can be attributed to 2 sports Badminton and Mens Gymnastics. I don't really follow Mens Gymnastics but in Badminton it really is just a case of China was punching above their weight almost in 2012 and in 2016 losing a couple close bronze medal matches.
