The big battle stuff looks like generic, confused, firey horseshit, but I’m hopeful the character interaction in the rest of the movie is up to standard. You're saying the big battle scenes look generic, confused, and firey horseshit and yet you've only seen like two seconds of the actual battle? Seems logical. I’m just not seeing a lot to get excited about when every otherbig action movie in the last decade usually has a big battle scene featuring urban destruction and a lot of fire. And I include Marvel in that. Something different wouldn’t go amiss, particularly since they essentially had the same setup in BVS, albeit without the red filter over everything.

Well I guess in retrospect, when it comes to these types of films there's really not a lot of wiggle room for creativity in big battle sequences. Every now and again you get something exciting like in the first Avengers, Civil War, etc But unless something unique transpires there's not a lot of room in terms of visionary and action aspects with these types of scenarios.

This is true, but with the budgets and relative creative freedom allowed to them, it would be nice if the people behind these movies tried to do something unexpected, as I’m finding myself tuning out in the third act of these movies - Wonder Woman and GOTG2 are also guilty of this, despite both being excellent movies. When Darkseid shows up in JL2 I expect we’ll get another helping of buildings burning while the heroes fight and get their set pieces in, hence why I’m looking more towards the character work that gets done. Flash looks fun, Diana should continue to be great, and if they’ve ironed out Batman’s homicidal tendencies I’ll likely enjoy Bruce. Still undecided on Aquaman, but Momoa’s a damn likeable dude. Cyborg could go either way, but I’m not holding my breath.

Whenever I watch these films I always find myself at least taken out of the action because of the quick edited cuts. I'd like to see a comic book film where it's just an endless on shot, not edited, action scene where the heroes are showcasing their abilities. I mean similar to Daredevil, Kingsman, and even the first Avengers but something longer than a few minutes. I totally get what you're saying as far as the action is concerned. Much like you I want to see something different instead of the usual cliché fight in an abandoned city.

Dr. Strange was the last movie of this type to really hook me in the final battle, thanks to the double twist of having a fight moving forward in time while time itself moved backwards, and then the conflict being resolved not by violence but the hero using his smarts to outmanoeuvre the villains. Quick cuts have become the death of action for me. The greatest movie fights have all allowed the action to speak for itself, and there’s few things more offputting than the camera perspective changing dozens of times in a compact period of time for no other reason than trying to look flashy, or - even more unforgivable - trying to artificially insert life into an action scene. If a filmmaker is resorting to doing that to make their action scene feel exciting and interesting, then their action scene is a failure on the most basic level and they’re just trying to polish a turd.

I can honestly say the last action sequences that literally blew me away was John Wick 2. To me that's how action should be shot and experienced. I feel in my opinion that Marvel and even DC could learn a lot from the John Wick films.

It's probably just me but Cyborg just does not look good. He's just kind of a lame character. They probably realised that they needed a black character and decided that since Cyborg was a founding member of the JL in the new 52 that it was good enough.

I hate that adding a black character is seen as a negative but I get what you mean in context I will say making Cyborg the boy scout goodie goodie instead of blending in some of his Teen Titan persona has hurt them

Its just he was so boring and bland and out of place Honestly if they took out Hal put in John and then added another female character it would have been much better

I just wish new 52 Cyborg wasn't so lame and that they put an interesting character in.

Yea I get what u meant, I just said what I said for those who do use it as a negative As said already New 52 Cyborg is very boring and the boy scout character is too vanilla. I'm guessing they are going to use him similar to how he was used in the Flashpoint cartoon movie

Mr Terrific would be my choice for a replacement for Cyborg. Awesome character and it'd be so surreal to see the Fairplay jacket on screen (Arrow notwithstanding)

I dunno, any time they're showing the fighting, it does look a little video-gamey. I'm hopeful it plays out better, but it's a valid concern. Yeah, unfortunately that's the problem in so many of these movies. CGI has obviously grown by leaps and bounds over the years, but in these big team-up movies it's usually a lot of rendered set pieces with the heroes hitting hoards of faceless mooks so they can look cool and...yeah, it gets tired after awhile.
