Show returns Wednesday. Thought last season was one of their best Really? I thought it was by far their worst. I want to get excited for the new season but I just can't. I'm willing to give it a shot because I really hate to think South Park to me has at last ran out of steam but here I am.

I had the Kyle "Kick ass" shirt, Stan and Cartman plushes, and I saw the movie twice in theaters. I haven't found the later seasons as enjoyable, to me it's fallen too deep into the same preachy elements that drag Family Guy down. Part of it too is I just found more interesting shows to me.

Agree. I don't hate the idea of having a consistent plot last an entire season. The problem is if the plot is bad, then the entire season is bad. I HATED when they started the last season with this whole "We've grown up together" nonsense. You can't be a show that's known for stuff like "kick the baby" and ""Kyle's mom is a bitch" and then turn around and try to play a parent. When I think South Park, I don't think political and social commentary that we need to be told because "we've grown up". South Park is trying to be a smart comedy and it's not, so why is it trying so hard to be something else besides what has made it last 20 years? I did not mind the social commentary in the last few seasons but this last season was just too much.

I did not mind the social commentary in the last few seasons but this last season was just too much. Exactly. And I don't mean that as in simply "I don't like this show's ideology", as I do realize South Park tries to avoid having a consistent slant. It's reached the same place the Simpsons have for me- far from terrible, but I'm more interested in newer, different kinds of subversion and satire. I've seen so much shock humor and pointed opinions from both SP and its imitators, it just doesn't feel as daring or shocking for me anymore. Diminishing returns, essentially. For what it's worth, some of the funniest SP episodes to me are actually light on social commentary. "Free Willzyx", "The Death of Eric Cartman" and "Casa Bonita" are hilarious to me, they just use their original characters/story elements and they get a lot of mileage simply based on that.

They are most certainly gonna do something with Trump, that's for sure.

The story arc last season was great. There's nothing wrong with South Park going for a different style like they already did the other season. They are most certainly gonna do something with Trump, that's for sure. They already did last season. If anything, they'll just have Garrison do more campaigning.

Can't wait to see how they continue off last year. I'm most interested in the President Garrison storyline and where it goes considering how insane things have been politically this year

Despite being a massive fan of the show for years, probably from the very beginning...my interest in it is just about non existent. Honestly, in a way I feel the show runs on autopilot like 80% of the time. We know Cartman is going to scheme, we know Kyle is going to try to stop him, we know Randy is going to do something embarrassingly stupid, we know Butters is going to naively have something happen to him. Pepper in some popular topics such as Trump, Black Lives Matter and Pokemon Go...and you've got your lazy social satire as well. The fact that they're also doing a season long arc is frustrating as well, and multiple part episodes are usually not worth stretching out with the exception of Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut, Go God Go, and Imaginationland.
I only watched a couple episodes from the last season and it's just disappointing how paint by numbers and uninspired it felt. Any show that has been on this long is going to feel it, and truthfully I don't think you can try to reinvent it's structure to make it feel different. Honestly, I've just seen everything these characters have to offer. I'd actually prefer a new series from Trey and Matt because I do think they're both immensely talented. If Mike Judge could do it, they most certainly could.

I do want elements of last season to be back, but not as much of it. The show wasn't mean't to do a full season storyline.

At the very least, I'm sure they'll have Garrison do more crazy stuff if nothing else. There's been so much bizarreness this year I don't know what the main arc will be if they do another one.

Sounds like I may have been right about Garrison being the main arc, but I'm not betting on anything until half the season is over.

Loved how they parodied PC culture last year One of the bright spots for sure. However, ultimately I was rather disappointed with S19, I preferred the two seasons before The ads stuff towards the end of the season was rather boring

I couldn't get in to season 19, I hated PC principal. He was more just annoying then funny. Season 18 I loved though. Hopefully 20 is more like that

I agree that the ad stuff with Leslie got a little dull, but Jimmy was awesome in those episodes, especially the way he stood up to PC Principal.
I loved PC Principal because the point of the character WAS for him to be annoying to the point where you would hate him. I thought they did a great job of making him represent all the hypocritical SJWs out there who want safe spaces for people, but who aren't above insulting/bullying others in order to get those safe spaces.
