I'm old enough to remember when Punk was the best in the world.

So, sorry to be a dick, but every thread on this is like 10 pages and I'm in a rush. Did he get his ass kicked right quick, or did he actually put up a fight? He got killed. Quickly. Just over two minutes.

He was taken down immediately, tapped in just over two minutes, and was hurt so badly the fight should have stopped well before that.

And in all honesty, while he survived for two minutes, fight was over after the takedown ten seconds in. He tried, but there was nothing he was doing at that point.

am I the only one who finds the butthurt being thrown at him over this to be a little hilarious?
I mean I thought him going to UFC as a terrible idea too but some people just seem to have this hilarious personal hatred for the guy, like they called their mom's house and he answered the phone or something (thanks, Miz).

Good god that first punch attempt by Punk has to be the weakest, less sharp, and most laughable attempt at throwing a punch made by a grown man ever. If my 75yo grandmother tried to attack the 73yo lady next door she would probably use the same punch technique than Punk. 2 f***ing years of training to try - and miss by a good 1 meter margin - such an awful looking first punch that's just pathetic.

It's more a case of people simply agreeing with his own definition of himself, as being a surly, anti-social, asshole, and that's pretty much the kind of person people would want to see getting his ass handed to him.

maybe for you. I didn't expect him to win or anything...but I watched because this guy walked away from the sport that made him rich and famous to chase a dream. And I respect the everloving shit out of that. My dream is to play in the NFL, but since I don't have name recognition like CM Punk, I'll never get that opportunity. Might want to check your logic concerning why you'll never play in the NFL. If you think that's that reason you'll never play, you have a lot bigger issues than CM Punk resentment. In all honesty, Punk's aspiration in being able to succeed in UFC is a lot less off-base than what I am reading there.

I had kinda fallen off the Punk bandwagon since his departure from WWE:. For obvious reasons. Dude comes across as a massive prick.
I admit that I had gone into the night pretty much just to laugh at Punk. But that said all the hate being thrown his way by Internet warriors is making me like the guy a lot more again. Which I guess is cool, because he is still one of my favorite wrestlers.
And his post-fight promo was awesome.

I don't have a horse in this race but I honestly think i'd rather get my bollocks kicked in for $2m for two minutes work as opposed to wrestle at Backlash 2016

Honestly it's stuff like this that makes me not take UFC all that seriously. There are examples of well known athletes being signed for other sports but it was at a lesser level that didn't really matter. Michael Jordan screwed around in AA ball for Birmingham in 1994, but it's not like the White Sox put him on the main roster. And of course there's the whole Tim Tebow signed for the Mets and their instructional league deal, which he really doesn't deserve but again it's not like he's on the main roster for the Mets as they make a playoff push. Dana White and UFC seriously put a 37 year old CM Punk with no amateur experience on a live PPV, without him showing he could win any sort of MMA fight on a minor league level. To me that is a joke and makes the sport look like a joke.
Frankly, if I'm WWE I wouldn't even bring this up or make fun of Punk. What good does it do? Yeah, ha ha. One of your most decorated champions of the past decade stepped foot into a real fight and got destroyed in 2 minutes. I fail to see how that makes WWE look good or gives them anything to crow about. It just makes them look like a fed of phony wrestlers that have zero shot in an actual fight.

It's funnier to see the amount of people that take this as some sort of personal victory than it was actually seeing him getting killed out there. Not liking the guy is one thing, hell laughing about it is one thing, but to jump to "he deserved this cause he's an asshole" is kinda...much.
This falls on Dana White to me. He set the whole thing up to get a bunch of buys off of Punk's name knowing that he'd get destroyed and it would be a one time deal. Props to Punk for taking the chance and all, but it was obviously a way for Dana to put the UFC and Punk's opponent (which ended up being Mickey) over.
If your organization is supposed to be the top fighting organization in the world then you shouldn't be putting a guy like Punk in there in the first place. It's irresponsible as f***.

I thought his post-fight speech was unintentionally hilarious. I figure he was punch drunk. Like the time I got my ass kicked at school and afterwards I imagined I was an ice cream cone. Pretty surreal shit.
Aside from the "don't ever let anyone tell you you can't live your dreams!" bit (as a rule, it's probably a good idea to listen to those people if they are telling you that the chances of being mauled are quite high) but the whole "I enjoyed myself tonight!" thing made me laugh because in my head I could hear JBL saying "we're all about having fun MAGGLE!!"
Punk might have had fun, but I don't think his head and ear did.

Am I only thinking Punk was working his punches? Those jabs he threw at Gall on the ground were total weak sauce.
