Salvador Larroca? From Dr. Doom to Aliens then. Well, the art will certainly not disappoint.

Time for eJm to talk about Death Metal again since I just finished “Last Stories of the DC Universe”. No spoilers as such but just to say, out of all the mini story collections the series has had, this is the one to go out of your way to read. All have their charms and feels like they’re written by the right people but Gail Simone’s Green Arrow and Black Canary story is probably the best out of the bunch just for how adorable they are together. But that isn’t a new thing. Actually, there is one spoiler and it’s pretty cool (for me anyway)... {Spoiler}Sinestro is a Green Lantern again for one night only since he asked to be one. Which, hey, no complaints here for a big multiversal battle.

I love how every 'end of the world' scenario for Nightwing ends in {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}...Him and Babs getting married.
Guess Babs didn't stay with Bard all that long.
Dick however, says that if they live, they will annul, as he wants to win her back the 'right' way and not in the heat of the moment, Babs says she can never stay mad at Dick for long, and Dick says he could never truly forget Babs even when he was Rick. A big Take That! to "Bea was special" then
Babs is wearing her Burnside costume and not her current outfit
Donna meets up with Wally, the other Titans are worried she'll be angry over what he did to Roy, but Donna embraces Wally..she's forgiven him! And is this a spoiler for the outcome of the next issue of Legion? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Superman creates a chronal device using a combination of Kryptonian technology with the remains of Jon's time bubble...Jon can no longer return to the 31st century it seems...and he's still not a damn kid. Guess that Supersons digital series is still set in the past

Some Batman callbacks in Amazing Spider-Man today {Spoiler}One of Harry/Kindred's many fatal assaults on Peter includes the Bane Back Breaking and pummelling Peter the way Joker did Jason Todd.
Kindred wants Peter to confess to something

I completely forgot that Crossover #2 came out yesterday and there’s a lot of set up but basically... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} There are two sets of camps, one for superheroes who came out of the dome (their powers blocked off by a special device) and for regular people that stumbled through who have been experimented on for their powers, if they have any.
Our two protagonists now both have to head to the Dome, Ellie with the child named Ava and Orion with a gun that can kill most superheroes. One is going to try and help find her parents and the other...well, he won’t know yet until he gets to the dome.
Oh, and someone seems to be killing comic book writers. And I don’t mean alagories, Brian K. Vaughn is murdered and Zdarsky, Snyder and Kirkman are missing, presumed dead. It’s kind of nuts.

Ugh, the Gary Frank cover for Last Stories of the DCU was an exclusive variant. Was hoping it was a regular variant cover, and that it wouldn't have been the steep $35 that my store was charging (and they do those prices low, so I imagine it's $50+ elsewhere). Issue was pretty good at least; Waid & Manapul's Superman tale was a delight.

at least Marvel leaves them alive... so in theory someone else could look through the roster of characters and decide to use them again... (Unless they take off massively like Spider-Gwen or Kamala Khan) DC just decides they're going to kill off B-D tier heroes to get over their new bad ass villain... and it's never really treated like as big a deal as they want to make it seem... cause I doubt Witchfire's death is the start of some massive plot or twist... and is instead just a storybeat of well villain needs to kill someone and the Editor giving the writer a list of "acceptable" kills.

So I just read Batman/The Maxx: Arkham Dreams...
Does anybody have any idea what I just read? Because I can't make heads or tails out of it.

That’s basically just the reaction most anyone has when reading The Maxx’s own book. Just a lot of weird, surrealist storytelling and artwork. That's the thing, I've read most of the old The Maxx stuff, and while it is weird and surreal and at times insane, I remember it being mostly coherent. You could understand what's happening in the story. I can't say the same for Arkham Dreams.

DC's been kill crazy since.............Infinite Crisis, probably? New 52 was just them bringing all sorts of B-C-D-Z lister people back (from death and also non-use) and then killing most of them again quite flippantly. Witchfire still exists, at least; WW has encountered her in a sort of afterlife place during and after that Witching Hour story in JLDark. I would wager someone could (hopefully?) bring her back fairly easily from there?

I think the big issue was that DC looked at Infinite Crisis and 52 and thought "gee I guess graphic violence sells" And running with that instead of thinking "hey if top flight creators write a good story, it sells". It doesn't help that Geoff Johns himself basically started including gore in everything he wrote for a while after Infinite Crisis as some kind of crutch.
