I'm guessing they expected Miller and Lord to lend their comedic talents to the movie's themes without turning it into Ace Ventura in Space. I don't think anyone expected them to make a movie as bleak or serious as Rogue One, but there's a lot of different layers between "super serious" and "wacky comedy." Disney probably expected them to be in between instead of going all the way into "wacky comedy." Though if all this stuff about their version of the film was true, I'm glad they were let go because they sounded like a completely wrong fit for Star Wars canon. I think you could do a wacky comedy in Star Wars, but not for an established character. Because wacky is not something I'd use to explain Han Solo or Lando. Maybe the proposed Boba Fett movie would be a good place for him to pop up in. At the very least, hopefully his scenes will pop up somewhere. |
