Talking about my first PC got me to thinking....my kids will never know the pain of dial up internet. Even my brother who is 17 doesn't understand when I tell him how slow the internet used to be.Then again sometimes I forget too. Like today it took 2 minutes for me to download a 10mb song and after a minute I was bitching about it. After hearing me complain my husband said remember when that would have taken like 45 minutes and you would have probably been booted off by someone using the phone at least once?
Damn technology has come hella far in my lifetime and I'm only 34.

Who would have thought this noise would be so nostalgic?

That's why you purposely get dial up on your kids computer.

Oh, I remember dial-up. Those weren't the days. And subscriptions were expensive as Hell too. To think nowadays you can have ultra-high speed internet for dirt cheap and you can whip out your phone at any moment and search for anything in seconds, it's quite amazing how fast web-surfing technology has improved.
On the plus side, getting you twenty seconds porn clip finally be downloaded felt like a goddamn event.

You're telling me. I was becoming familiar with my 'manhood' towards the end of dial-up's popularity in the early 2000s. I still have awful memories of trying to sneak some internet porn in about an hour before my parents got home from work. Many times, despite the hour I had, wasn't enough and I would get caught. It sucked.
When we got DSL, well...let's just say I got to know myself quite well; quickly too.

I remember downloading an anime, shame on me. 30 episodes and 2 specials took 3 days of solid sign up on our second phone line my dad purposely got for the internet. $300 later for going over our data limit.
Later on, I got the same anime, all of it. 10 minutes now.. :x

That's not to mention the early days of online gaming. One of my best friends and I would wait until everyone else in the house had gone to bed, then we had to unplug all the phones in the house and dial the other's number. We normally got in a solid 20 minutes of Command and Conquer, Total Annihilation, or Star craft(although Blizzard had introduced battle.net by the time the first Star craft game came out) before his 90 year old Grandpa would pick up the phone and just start talking, after which we had to wait for him to explain everything to his grandpa each time then start the process over.

Yahoo Chat. I once convinced a kid I was Eric Bischoff and was going to heavily push a tag team of Scott Hall and Mortis.
