So in watching the Star Wars marathon on TNT, I got to thinking about the million additions and subtractions Lucas has made over the years. And while we know all about the bad edits, what about the good ones?
What does everyone think, what changes did Lucas make that were good, that added to the movies in a positive way?

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.... That was added? I like the improvements to most of the special effects. I saw a video complaining about all the changes and was a bit shocked as to how bad some of the scenes of the ships and such looked originally. Been a long time since I've seen the unaltered originals.

Adding Luke catching up with Biggs on Yavin before the Death Star battle.

Its basically the only change I like, and I know its pseudo blasphemous as a fan of the SW OT, but... I prefer Victory Celebration over Yub Nub for the ending of ROTJ.
Yeah I know, its just really good instrumental work.

There are many instances, though, most of which in IV, where the new effects shots are very obvious, and actually jar you out of the movie because they're so out of place.

And I just now thought of the prequel movies. Was anything changed in those after being released to DVD and later Blu Ray?

the approach to bespin, one of the most beautiful scenes in the trilogy IMO it may not add anything, but it is gorgeous
also the falcon blasting out of mos eisley and the extra shot they put in

Pretty much everything in episode V was good. And I just now thought of the prequel movies. Was anything changed in those after being released to DVD and later Blu Ray? They changed Yoda from a puppet to CGI in episode I for the Blu Ray release.

Adding Luke catching up with Biggs on Yavin before the Death Star battle. I like that but wish they would have somehow also worked in the earlier cut Biggs scene because unless you're familiar with the book you don't know who the hell this guy is.

Not really an editing thing but the sound mix for the original trilogy special edition was phenomenal. The Death Star battle at the end of Episode IV sounded f***ing spectacular (and didn't look bad either).

Adding Luke catching up with Biggs on Yavin before the Death Star battle. This and adding windows to the Cloud City are the only SE changes that I like.

I love that Lucas insisted on keeping the Stormtrooper smacking his head into the door. From a blooper standpoint that should have been edited out but Lucas loves it so much, he left it in.

I like making the Dewbacks actually moving since it was a bit jarring that they just kinda stood there in the original... I always laugh that Lucas added a loud clang sound to the stormtrooper that hit his head. Pretty much everything in episode V was good. And I just now thought of the prequel movies. Was anything changed in those after being released to DVD and later Blu Ray? They changed Yoda from a puppet to CGI in episode I for the Blu Ray release. Because the Puppet looked pretty damned terrible.

I thought this thread was going to be about Star Wars fan edits.

He loved so much that he had Jango hitting his head on Slave 1 and as I said added a sound effect in the special editions.
