Throughout its near one hundred years, Disney has created several memorable characters from films, cartoons, comics and others. Films that you hear a quote and immediately start spouting off other parts of it. Many amazing and endearing films that have been produced over the years.
Brave, is not one of them and a good part of that, if not the major reason its decried is because of its *ahem* protagionist Merida.
Merida let's face it, remove the v and e from Brave and replace it with a t and you sum up her character. She's a brat plain and simple although they attempted to portray her as an empowering character and role model when she's anything but. Here's someone who's seemingly always angry and spiteful towards her parents for the most minimal of reasons and resents the fact that she's a Princess but still expects to be treated special and get her way all the time.
But what makes her the worst character is the fact that she knowingly and willingly poisons her own mother without any hesitation at all when the opportunity presents itself, almost with glee on her face when her mother consumes the poison. And then while her mother is in pain and anguish, she throws a fit during it not paying any attention at all to the pain she's in. Merida has no noticable quirks or anything about her that makes you want to root for her, even villains like Hook, Facilier, Ursula and others had their characters, traits and depths. Merida's just one dimensional and the only noticable thing about her is her hair.
In the end, she learned nothing, refusing to even apologize for what she's done and gets her way and we're suppose to root for her. Some said that she's better and more inspiring than characters like Snow White and Cinderella, but here's the thing. Snow White and Cinderella were ordered to do chores 24/7 but they put up with it. They didn't bitch and moan constantly about how life was being mean to them, they did the tasks they were given and endeared themselves to others because of their kind hearts and earned their Happy Endings. Merida throws a fit if she's asked for the most simple of things and she's a symbol of empowerement that everyone especially girls should look up to.
So yes, I can say without any doubt that Merida is the most unlikable and worst character that Disney has ever came up with.

Are we counting the sitcoms? Because if so pretty much all of them have some strong candidates for the spot.

I assume we're talking main characters, or else this would be silly. She's a lot more likable than Lightning McQueen, if nothing else.

all she is is NAIVE, still young and full of it big time, and just had a massive fight with her mum who wants you to be THE PERFECT LITTLE PRINCESS EVER who'd just burnt your most favourite birthday gift ever ..... because i'm sure YOU at fifteen was a serene positive role model, and not a mental tyrant THEN being naive in going out and following those blasted wisps, getting conned rotten by some old had BACK IN THE SPRING MY ASS, and having her NOT being speared to death by your ravenous dad ..... ALL IN TWO DAYS!!! ..... loved BRAVE, recorded it LAST christmas off tv and only saw it a couple of months ago, then watched it again a few weeks ago

Never watched it but....As much as I loved The Lion King, Simba is an absolute asshole of a protagonist.

The orphan mice from "Pluto's Birthday" exist, so no. Not even close.

I get that actual lions will kill the children of the previous male on sight, but I'd expect more compassion from a fictional king that even prey items seem subservient to. He's kind of a scumbag.

Ariel was a rebellious teenager who got her way in the end.

For me it will always be the animated version of Mowgli. The little brat is whiny, petulant and at the end of the film abandons everything he believes in for a girl.
Ariel is the same, but with the genders reversed.

I'm gonna go with Mowgli from the animated Jungle Book.
-Bratty -Total weakling, but insisted he was tough as nails -Ignored and scorned Bagheera and (eventually) Baloo, his only friends -Continually ran away when he was mad, then begged for help when he got in trouble -Baloo nearly dies saving Mowgli from Shere Khan...instead of helping him recover or something, he runs off with some girl he just met
I know what you're thinking. He was just a kid. Even kid heroes have to have redeeming features and he had ZILCH...
I haven't seen Brave, but I assume Merida is at least capable of stuff, seeing as how the trailers sold her as this badass independent tomboy. Mowgli was pathetic on every level

Brave was terrible. Merida was awful. Maybe not the worst, but not many are coming to mind.
Elsa sucked pretty badly too, but blame that more on the massive plot holes when they decided to make her a face.

Chip and Dale from the original Donald Duck shorts. This poor duck would just be trying to mow his lawn or take a nap, and these little rodents would outright terrorize him, then he gets labeled with a "bad temper" when he finally snaps.

Having seen the Black Cauldron and endured Gurgi, I'd say Merida probably doesn't have the top spot, no.

I don't see the problem with Elsa. To me she comes off like a scared and confused teenager who is having trouble coping with her powers that make her feel like a freak on top of some overwhelming responsibilities, and also on top of her and Anna losing their parents at a young age. When she sings Let It Go, she's coming to terms with the fact she can control ice, but she's still in a crisis at that point. In the process, she's still isolating herself from her loved ones, and she still has important lessons to learn later in the story. I felt she was a very sympathetic character.
The most unlikable character in a Disney film is Chicken Little's father. It's bad enough the entire town has to clown on this poor kid, the least he could do is TRY to be emotionally supportive. Nope!

The Sultan was an out of touch idiot, but that's it. He never came off to me like a full douche the way Buck from Chicken Little did. Also, I don't think anyone in Black Cauldron grabbed me. Taran is whiny, Gurgi's not that cute, and the villain looked cool but didn't do anything cool.
