Alan's version of Wheel of Fortune's theme is still the best, yes even moreso than the 1980s version everyone remembers.

Every year we have the same thread about how many celebrities we have lost and that particular year is the worst ever. We lose a lot of celebrities every year and don't think this year is any worse than the others. In 2015 we lost: Leonard Nimoy Wayne Rogers Maureen O'Hara Robert Loggia Donna Douglas Christopher Lee James Best Joan Leslie Omar Shariff Wes Craven Geoffrey Lewis Lizabeth Scott Anne Meara Martin Milner Roddy Piper Louis Jourdan Alex Rocco Yvonne Craig This year is a lot longer, and nobody was saying "Worst year ever" in previous years as much as they are this year. Look at the impact this year's dead have had on the world. This. I know one can look at us funny for believing in a 2016 curse, but come on now. Plus it hasn't been easy for some of our personal lives either. (I lost 2 friends young unexpectedly, and my uncle passed away 2 weeks ago)

This year can go straight to hell Yes, hopefully when 2016 ends, the deaths of so many beloved entertainers will end as well.

Not to be morbid (but yet now's the part where I get morbid), but I felt the deaths of David Bowie and Prince were what really set a LOT of people off re: "The Curse of 2016." Bowie died days into the year, and Prince was dead by the end of April. Music tends to hit home with a lot of people in fairly significant ways, for some reason (not me though, it's just music) - so the fact that it was 2 socially & culturally impactful people like Bowie and Prince made an even bigger impression on this year for MANY people. .....and as I'm typing this, I'm reminded that Leonard Cohen died too. A guy I'd always heard more about for his impact on music than had actually heard his music...

To be fair, the 2010s have been awful in general. Anything that means no more Dick Clark = all bets are off. Classic game show host pool whittled down, only one Golden Girl, so forth and so on. And of course we can go just before the decade with the 2009 Triad, which aggravated the "it happens in threes" curse too.

Hell, we lost Alan Rickman 2 days after Bowie, and that was like 2 weeks into the year. Not a great start.

On the subject of Alan Thicke, I've had a hard time putting it into words. Such a great guy who I really liked as an actor, admired as a composer, and was in tremendous awe of as a father. I interviewed him in 2013 at the height of his son's musical success with "Blurred Lines" (for those who don't know, Alan Thicke is the co-creator of Robin Thicke) and he was so genuinely proud of his son and shared so many cool memories. Here's a retrospective of Alan Thicke's musical career I put together last night - myspace.com/article/2016/12/14/alan-thicke-ripHere's my 2013 interview where we discussed his son - www.laweekly.com/music/alan-thicke-talks-about-his-son-robin-thicke-4168247
