Return of the Jedi may be the weaker of the 3 classic movies but I have to say that the escape from Jabba's palace might just be the greatest, most exhilarating moment in all three movies! Luke jumping off the diving board, R2 firing him the light sabre and generally being the real hero, Leia killing Jabba by herself, Boba Fett being fricking awesome with all his gadgets (okay I'll admit his death is a big negative to this scene, but where else would he feature in this movie that would make sense actually?), Chewie and Han saving a blind Lando, people jumping from ship to ship and the chaos around them with everybody falling into the pit. It's brilliant!
Whenever I do a retro Star Wars matrathon (using my old VHS tapes so I don't have any of the CGI bullshit from the re-releases) always go into Jedi thinking it's the worst and come out of it so, so happy and this scene in particular. In fact the whole half an hour preceding this is incredible too (like I said I watch the theatrical versions so I don't get that movie-killing scene with that disgustingly animated singing alien). Then later in the movie you get more Yoda goo scenes and a flipping fantastic speeder bike chase which is another classic scene. There's so much to enjoy at the start of the movie that I am more than willing to look over the craziness of Ewoks battling the Empire or the laziness of a second death star. This movie rules.
Honestly aside from the Cloud City scenes, which look stunningly beautiful in a way Star Wars never has (Force Awakens actually did look beautiful during the light sabre battle) with it's blue lights and orange smoke, I think the escape from Jabba's palace is the second best scene in the original trilogy.

The whole "ROTJ" is the worst of the 3 thing has really evolved over the years.
It used to be like your 3rd favourite ice cream flavour, you still loved it insanely, just not quite as much.
Over the years, it's being seen as like the Godfather 3, this huge gulf of quality after 2 classics, and I just don't see it.

The last 40 minutes or so of Jedi is one of the best parts of the entire saga. There's just so much going on and it never lets up.

When I was a kid, it was most everyone's favorite.
Over the years that's changed. But it's just as fun as the other two.

The thing about ROTJ is that we all were probably kids when it first came out so we just go "yeah the heroes won!" while now it's still enjoyable but there's more stuff that make us go "but why though" like how the original plan was for the Endor battle to be on Kashyyk with an army of Wookies instead of the Ewoks.
Still though, damn fine opening half an hour and the final confrontation is great. It's just the most flawed of the original trilogy.

The last 40 minutes or so of Jedi is one of the best parts of the entire saga. There's just so much going on and it never lets up. For my money the third act of Jedi is the best in the entire saga. Sure, the Ewoks defeating a legion of the Empire's finest troops is silly, but the battle on Endor's surface, the battle in orbit, and Luke vs. Vader all mesh so perfectly.

The entire original trilogy rules. I really hope they release the original versions on Blu Ray. Disney would make so much money and the hardcore fans would love it.

Jedi was my favourite at the time. I still watch it, but not as feverishly as I do New Hope and Empire. Likely has to do with, to quote Malcom Tucker, "the planet where the teddy bears live".
I saw a fanedit once that removed the Ewoks entirely from the movie. Wish I'd kept it, don't know if it's still available

In Clerks, there's a reason Randall says "Blasphemy!" when Dante says he prefers Empire to Jedi. I'll bet that when most of us were younger, Jedi was the VHS most of us watched the most, it's just such a fun movie.
The way I see it, Jedi is definitely the most flawed of the original trilogy; on the basis of Han Solo feeling kind of useless alone, it gets knocked below A New Hope and Empire. However, when Jedi is on, it's spot on. I remember having a conversation a few years ago with some people about how the whole Jabba's Palace sequence through the Sarlaac battle may be one of the best executed action sequences in movie history, and then Luke's confrontation with the Emperor and Vader is really the emotional climax of the whole saga and pretty thoroughly delivers the goods.

Return of The Jedi is still my favorite of the trilogy.
People act as if the second Death Star and the Ewoks somehow destroy this film. Even if you don't like those parts, everything else greatly outweighed it.

My favorite part of the escape is when the lightsaber flies into Luke's hand and he turns it on.

I think Empire is a better movie, but I love Jedi. It's so much fun to watch from beginning to end.

Jedi I think is the least tight package of the three. A lot of rad shit happens, but it isn't as tied together as the first two were. I still like it quite a bit, and it has some of my favorite stuff of the original trilogy, like some of the best setpieces and some of Vader's best stuff.
I often forget how many of the moves you can do in some of the Star Wars games come from Luke and Vader's two fights. Force jumping? Empire. Throwing a lit lightsaber as a projectile? Return of the Jedi. Fun times.

All the Jabba stuff kinda makes me a little sad when I view it today. Why? Because I know we'll probably never see anything like that again. With CGI today it would be chock full of overly goofy aliens working a void and a couple actors interacting with a green screen. I don't care how professional of an actor you are, it always feels off when you watch somebody interacting with stuff that's 99% green screen or CGI.
The seamless interactions between all the aliens/Jabba/props/vehicles/human actors is amazing.

Sure Jedi has it's issues (Useless Solo & Ewoks) but it's still a great movie.
For me it's the "Temple of Doom" of Star Wars, A great movie but not as good as the other 2

The last 40 minutes or so of Jedi is one of the best parts of the entire saga. There's just so much going on and it never lets up. And it took until December 2016 for the franchise to rival that. (Though May 2005 was close...)

The scene at the cantina in Force Awakens was a great homage to the original costume filled Mos Eisley cantina scene, until they met the horrible CGI Maz "Butthole Eyes" Kanata. Give me giant puppets or costumes over CGI characters any day

Also related to the second fight Helping to drive home the point of Force Users not just being guys with nifty swords and a few tricks but flat out wizards, as the Emperor did not use nor need a Lightsaber in the original trilogy.

Return of the Jedi was definitely my favorite growing up. I think it still might be, even though I can acknolwedge that A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are more polished movies.
The end scenes with Vader/Luke/Palpatine are probably the best part of the entire saga though. I always get chills when Luke almost loses it at the end.

I was fine with him having and using one in Revenge, but I like lightning being his thing, especially since he liked torturing them with it.
