How did you feel when he was punting the family left and right and that whole storyline in general. He was the most despised heel and it seemed like with those actions he could never become a face again. It still strikes me as odd that they killed his momentum at mania because of happy ending BS. Ignoring the Shane shit he was as hot as you can be in the company.

Him punting Vince was really cool. Though it made the Rumble that weekend really predictable. Once they tried to tie in all his attacks against McMahons as a shot at Triple H, the whole thing fell apart.

It became apparent he was going to fight HHH and once they went nose to big nose it was over. Add on to the fact they do not have good matches based upon similar styles and you have a bad matchup. Along with Randy losing I still do not understand in that blood feud how you do not make the match no DQ.

Mainly because Triple H wasn't even champion at the time. Orton eliminated him to win the Rumble. What I didn't get was how punting Vince before the Rumble, and beating up Shane, worked into his "master plan" to take the title from Triple H at Mania 25.

The Vince attack was a great shocking moment but all the slow mo replays of the punt kick in these concussion aware days made me cringe.

Is it me, or has Stephanie McMahon been knocked unconscious more than any other superstar ever?

Amazing until Super Shane arrived, then got worse as the storyline revealed itself as "Triple H saves his family".

Having HHH with the belt really screwed with the booking as far as making a really coherent story that supposed to end positively.

All this lead to a very paint by the numbers boring match at mania against Orton/Triple H when it should of been an all-out violent brawl given the story of the match.

Triple H involvement ruined a lot of it.
So your usual Triple H feud

I didn't care about that whole storyline at all, but still pretty easy to see they completely f***ed it up and drove Orton's momentum into the ground when he was red hot at the time with the general public.
Still hold the Mania main event should have been either a crazy run-in fest no DQ match where it's basically a total war and Orton steals the win, or with the DQ stipulation it should've been Orton pushing Triple H's buttons and getting him more and more pissed off until Triple H eventually just beat him to death to the point he had to be hauled out on a stretcher, but Orton still went out holding the belt up to show at the end of the day, no matter what Triple H had done to him his plan had worked.

The fact they had to follow HBK/Undertaker and the other title match killed any momentum they had before the bell rung.

It was honestly my favorite moment in WWE since the early 2000s. It reinvigorated my liking of WWE and when I officially became an Orton fan. Yeah, the payoff was lackluster but man Orton was cool at this time. I wished they hadn't dropped the IED angle.

Was this around the same time Triple H broke in to Ortons house?

Was this around the same time Triple H broke in to Ortons house? Yeah, people kind of ignore that even before the Mania match they were already doing a pretty poor job with the latter half of the feud, with stuff like Orton feuding with Shane and it being portrayed as genuinely competitive, Triple H breaking into Orton's house, and one Raw that ended in like a ten minute chase backstage with Triple H trying to kill Legacy with a sledgehammer.

Obviously as Mega Orton Mark 2009 is one of my favourite years since he was all over Raw all year (the rest of Raw was dire though). The early McMahon stuff was magic and once Triple H got involved it went rapidly downhill. Triple H beating him clean at Mania is probably the angriest I've ever been as a wrestling fan. That should have been Orton's moment.

He wasn't the most despised heel, because everyone was going nuts for him. This was the one time, they could've had Cena/Orton and it would've been fine, because there was stil interest, instead they went to Haitch and killed Randy's overness, kind of like 04, all over again.

I thought it was really cool but it should have lead to a double turn with him and Triple H. Like, have HHH take things way too far to the point where the fans, who already pop a bit for Orton, sympathize with him. Have Legacy turn on him. That kinda thing.
And really, who likes the McMahons anyway? It was great seeing Orton own them.
